Huckabee Iowa Manager: 'We're Fighting a Radical Religion in Islam' By Mark Finkelstein | December 19, 2007 - 18:57 ET

Mike Huckabee might want to "revise and extend" the remarks of his Iowa campaign manager. Appearing on this evening's Tucker on MSNBC, Bob Vander Plaats stated that "we're fighting a radical religion in Islam" and that "the war on terror is a theological war."

In other news, the Sun rose in the East today... Islam is the problem. I won’t vote for Huck unless he wins the nomination, but this, coming from one of his managers, is the truth, and if Islam doesn’t like it, they can tell it to a Marine.

He’s just saying that which everybody knows to be true but is afraid to say.

CARLSON: Just to clarify, how does his experience as a pastor equip him to deal with the war on terror?

PLAATS: Well, I think what it is, the war on terror is obviously it’s a theological war. We have a radical Islamic group, so we believe that a guy with the training of a pastor understands the theological nature of the war. That also makes him very well-prepared in regards to this war on terror.

Theological war? Isn’t it more an attempt by the few to become powerful over the many? How does being a pastor give one any more ability to fight the bad guys than anyone else? And, does he understand Islam any better than the LDS religion? This is the most ridiculous answer ever.

And isn't it refreshing?

And he also had the cajones to say that he would never punish children for the crimes of their parents in not withholding merit scholarships for illegal immigrant children.

Isn't that refreshing?

And he also said "if you didn't like it, don't vote for me!"

It was shortly thereafter, his numbers took off.

It might not have been the wisest thing to say, but certainly is the truth.

I disagree. He's been playing the "Christian" card lately and almost every response is somehow tied to religion. I don't like it and I don't like his stance on illegals.

The surge for the Huckster is coming from the religious right that is afraid of Romney and his religion. The light of the Huckster's true liberalism will come out and he will drop.

Now if only conservatives would pay attention to Hunter.

Think Judo.

Is this the truth?

Yes.

Is it in any way helpful for a potential President to discuss it in these terms?

Absolutely not! Sometimes, in a war, it is best to keep your mouth SHUT!

You obviously are smarter than Huckabee’s campaign manager. Just how does his theological training help? Is he going to negotiate in Greek or Hebrew? Is he going to travel to Iran and convert them all to Christianity? Is he the Prophet Elijah returned? Will he insist on seminary training for upcoming Generals?

What a STUPID argument Huckabee makes!

I don't think Huck's numbers will drop without Hunter moving up.

If a former preacher will lie about the cross, what won't he lie about?

This might be the dumbest thing I ever heard. If “being a pastor and understanding the theological nature of the war” makes one well prepared, I think we should get the Pope to be Commander in Chief, or maybe at least someone who when he says he has a theology degree really does.

This is a cross

These are cartesian coordinates

What does the "cross" in the picture look more like?
