Couple forced to take in criminal lodger after he tells court their house is HIS home address

Last updated at 11:47am on 19th December 2007

A convicted criminal has moved in with a married couple against their wishes after giving their address in court as his home.

Shane Sims, 19, has spent the last few days living with Brenda and Robert Cole after he was sentenced to a week's curfew for breaching a supervision order.

But the couple claim the first they knew about it was when Sims, a friend of their daughter, moved in on Thursday - followed by security contractors who put a box in a bedroom to monitor his movements with an ankle tag.

Sims' tag keeps him indoors between 7pm and 7am much to the horror of the Coles, who both have learning difficulties.

Mrs Cole, 47, said: "It's turned our lives upside down.

"He's taken over the whole place. He sprawls across the sofa and he's always in the bathroom when you need it.

"It's an absolute disgrace. They've let a criminal come into our home and there is nothing we can do about it.

"How can he get away with giving false details? Can crooks pick anywhere they like and just move in? Who needs to break into a house when the courts will do it all for you?

"When the men turned up and installed the tag box, I thought it was some kind of a joke. I told them there had been a mistake but they just said it wasn't their problem."

Sims appeared before magistrates last Thursday where he admitted breaching a two-year supervision order imposed for assault.

He gave the Coles' Bristol address as his bail address but the Probation Service did not verify it.

Sims claims he was told he could stay by the Coles' 16-year-old daughter Tanya after he fell out with his father.

He allegedly told Mrs Cole: "I'm staying here until the tag's off. There's f**k all you can do about it. The courts have told me to."

The court said it was looking into the situation but police said they could not act without a court warrant.

Sims said: "I said 'I'll be gone before Christmas' and I will be. I can't see what the problem is. They keep changing their minds. I don't even want to be here."

A spokeswoman for South Gloucestershire Council, whose social workers care for Mr and Mrs Cole, said: "We are seeking legal advice and doing all we can to resolve the situation."

The Coles both have learning difficulties

And that's the problem. A normal couple would have tossed him out on his bum. HE's the one who would get in trouble, not them.

A normal couple would not have permitted the electronic device to be installed in the first place, unless that's the difference between citizens and subjects?

If it were my house, first, I’d “accidently” spill a spot of tea on the electronic monitoring box the authorities installed.

And each meal I’d happily served to the perp would have just a few drops of Visine in it. Why, ee’d be ‘eading for the water closet in a jiffy!

I'd sent the government a bill for twice what it costs to keep an inmate in prison for that time. After all, individual accommodations should come at a premium.

If the government can't be bothered to verify the address and forces someone to act as a prison warden, they should foot the bill for doing so.

If I was that couple I’d say, “You may have to stay at that this address but the food, water, television, bathroom, and beds are ours. Enjoy your stay on the porch.”

"I wonder what would have happened if he had listed his address as 10 Downing Street?"

No es problemo, All recent inhabitants at that address have been insane anyway. They'll never notice.

The Galtonian Dilemma.

Two learning disordered people, under the control of the social services have a 16 year-old daughter who herself has poor taste in men, finding their state-provided residence suddenly compromised by the daughter who is apparently a slow-learner as well promising what isn’t even her’s to give - and Darwin rolls again in his grave.

I would have a couple friends come over, pour a fifth of liquor down him and dump him in a nearby alley.

The police will show up and take him back to jail.

He allegedly told Mrs Cole: "I'm staying here until the tag's off. There's f**k all you can do about it. The courts have told me to."

Right about then, he would be on the floor, looking for his teeth and the better part of his face, while enjoying the sensations of having both rib cages kicked in and his scrotum compressed violently with a size 12.

WOW...im in awe with this.

It is a bit surreal, isn't it?

i cant believe they are forcing this upon them.

I'm guessing that there will be no tangible penalties paid for this 'bureaucratic error' by any parties involved either.  That's the beauty of Socialism....it's ALWAYS somebody else's fault.

i hope t oGod this kind of crap doesnt happen in the USA.

If the Left gains more power it could easily be happening here, I would bet.
