A giant spider has attacked the space shuttle Atlantis as it attempted to blast off into space.
At least, that's how it appeared when the inquisitive arachnid crawled onto Nasas launch camera at Cape Canaveral in Florida at the weekend.
Watch: Footage of the spider 'attack' on YouTube
For 26 seconds, the magnified beast could be seen on webcam appearing to take a bite out of the shuttles nose cone as it sat on the launch pad awaiting lift-off.
Then, just as abruptly as it appeared, the spider wandered off screen.
The Atlantis launch was eventually delayed although the eight-legged encounter was not to blame.
Faulty fuel tank sensors, a problem that has plagued Nasa since 2005, forced controllers to delay the mission until Jan 2 at the earliest.
The Atlantis and its crew of seven, including a German and a French astronaut, will eventually attempt to install a new laboratory on the International Space Station.
Ain't you got no sense at all?....
There’s another pic like this out there with a giant bird pecking at the shuttle. :)
I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords.
And its name is Boris...
That was great!
Eensy Beensy Spider, he burned his little butt.

One day, Jack saw a HUGE bug. no matter what he did, he couldn't coax the bug into his web.
Jack decided to venture away from his web. Perhaps he could entice the HUGE bug by being clever.
As he approached the HUGE bug, he decided that the bug looked kinda like a Praying Mantis. Now, having dealt with Praying Mantis' before, he remember enticing one young'n by doing his famous spider jig.
So Jack began to jig. He jigged all day. He jigged all night. The bug just stood there. Jack's jig had failed.
Jack then remembered singing to one Praying Mantis. So Jack sang his famous Spider Opera. His voice was sweet and mellow. Surely the Mantis would follow him to his web. But the HUGE bug didn't move.
Than Jack remembered cooking for one Mantis. All of a sudden, the HUGE bug let out a HUGE flame.
And from then on, Jack was always remembered as Black Jack.
armyaircorps beat me to it in post 8. Was “Boris The Spider” a Who song or a solo thing Entwistle did?
That was good.. : )
