Just to clarify a couple of things:
Project Mercury began on October 7, 1958.
The Apollo program started in 1960 (but did not really get going until Kennedy’s speech in May 1961).
Hillary’s still a liar, but let’s keep our facts straight
While Kennedy, in his speech of May 25, 1961 before Congress , proposed landing an American on the Moon by the end of the decade, and announced his intention to fund such a program, I don't think Apollo was yet named - according to NASA, the Apollo program ran from 1963 -1972.

I lived in Cocoa Beach back during that time (my brother was a space electronics engineering specialist) when Cocoa Beach was a sleepy little 2 highway town - with a couple motels, one being the Ramada Inn where the Mercury Astronauts hung out when in town. (No Ron Jon's!) One of my son's now works at the Space Center - 20 years now -
