From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_(automobile)
The project idea was originally started by Swiss watch manufacturer Swatch and was nicknamed the "Swatchmobile". The name SMART is an acronym for Swatch Mercedes ART

It seem ok but then again he was in the fast lane (but not going fast) holding up traffic and I had to pass him on the left
It you want one great but either keep up or stay right out of the way, else your going to be a speed bump it real world traffic

Smart cars are very popular around here. It’s mainly about the parking — there are even special half-sized spaces for them (and motorcycles).
Until this year, they were diesel — and got about 40% better mileage than advertised for the new (and 8” longer) gasoline powered Smarts.
They’re great for commuting in any city, where streets are narrow and parking spaces are scarce. Worth considering, if you have more than one vehicle.
Plus — they actually are babe magnets. Women seem to really like the cute little things. (Most women aren’t the motorheads that most guys are.)

Is 30,000 cars a huge demand? I am sure those smart car customers are left wing lunatics mostly between the age of 18-25. In the US around 17 millions new vehicles are sold each year so this 30,000 smart cars is an incredibly insignificant number.

It’s not a car you can drive everywhere, but I’ll bet it’s really cute. Some of the cars in Europe are just adorable.

I saw one or something similar on Sunday.

It’s about time! They’ve only been out in Europe for ten years.
To: Red Badger
there were quite a few of them on the roads when I was in Germany a couple of months ago (of course I was in Stuttgart, home of Daimler, so maybe that’s part it ...)
To: Red Badger
actually in europe it was pretty much a “swatch” type item for the fashion minded.
It will be for the people with more money than inteligence. Women will buy them because they are cute.
They might even get old people to buy them to go to the grocery store as a golf cart alternative.
Seriously though those things are TINY. You can park three side by side in a standard parking space.

Yes, I always wanted a car without a back seat to make out in (although I think I’m getting a little old for that).
