Acording to Fox, Harry Reid is keeping Congress in session to spite Bush by keeping the president from making any recess appointments of his candidates that Reid has blocked all year. Reid is reported to have the Senate convened every day at an empty chamber, and then, after 30 seconds, closed for the day.
Here is coverage in the Boston Globe and The New York Times.
Rush is right, when congress is not in session, they cannot do damage or spend more of my money. I am all for it. I want more of congress being in session for 30 seconds a day. Right after they fully fund the troops in Iraq.
Bush still thinks he can woo the RATS. He will never learn.
Half plus one is a Quorum according to Senate Rules. A Roll Call is made and then the Senate President can order the Sergeant At Arms to go get them. But the Senate isn’t in session. This is like Alfalfa presiding over an empty chamber of the He Man’s Women Haters Club in a Little Rascals short. Except when Ried does it, he looks crazy. Is he wearing a Water Buffalo Hat?

Except that this little drama has been completely ignored by the DBM and by conservative talk radio.
cspan is obligated to show the 30 second charade every day, so there is video available to be exploited.
Are you suggesting Pinky is a pussy?
At least we’re safe from the senate for the time being.
and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper;
Medi-time!!!!!
I LIKE your plan.......
Good suggestion!
OK! Nice going, Harry! You’re keeping up a great senatorial tradition of not doing anything for the country while spending kazillions on goodies for that great and august body(no, not Pamela Anderson).
There are 3 Senate office buildings: The Dirksen, The Russell and the Hart buildings.
How much office space is in those three buildings to handle the staffs of 100 people?
Drum roll, please!
Two million square feet!
Now, that’s efficiency, ay?
Another fun thing to know and tell.
Congressman Billybob
Boy, no kidding...
Actually, the Repubs had the chance to shove this down reid’s throat, by calling for a Quorum Call on Thanksgiving Day, but they chose to pass...

I agree, call the bluff. Unfortunately, I don’t think Bush has the stones.

My question is are you suggesting he should adjourn the Senate? I realize he can call them into session in ‘extraordinary situations’ but what does this have to do with the current situation that Reid is carrying on?
If I’m reading it correctly (and I may not be) he can call the Senate back into session to debate (whatever) and if they refuse to adjourn then adjourn them himself.
That would in effect nullify Reid’s attempt at stopping any recess appointments.
Once in adjournment, The President can appoint whom he wishes.
Like I said. Not sure I’m reading this correctly or whether it’s even applicable.
Just a thought.
