RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - Over 200 al-Qaida linked suspects belonging to different cells and involved in different plots against the kingdom have been arrested in recent months in the kingdom's largest anti-terror sweep to date, the Saudi Interior Ministry announced Wednesday.

The ministry first reported the arrest of eight men, said to be linked to al-Qaida and allegedly planning to attack oil installations in the kingdom.

An interior ministry statement, carried by the Saudi Press Agency, said the eight were part of a terrorist cell led by a non-Saudi man, who was one of the arrested. The planned attacks were to take place in the eastern region of the country, which is home to Saudi's main oil resources.

Today they arrest 200 terrorists. Two days ago they released 1000 terrorists.

The Saudis are still 800 terrorists in the hole for the week. What's a King Abdullah to do?

They can really get their tails in gear when the attack is planned against them.

Nice, but I bet the Saudis will let them out again very shortly once the terrorists repent and promise to be nice, just like the 1,500 other terrorists released last week.

1500 Al-Qaida released, 208 arrested. They’re still up 1292 Al-Critters out on the loose.

Probably found out they were on global watch lists and so they were rounded up for their own protection and each received a free scholarship to the AQ training camp of their choice. The line to depart the Kingdom forms on the left....

A shiny apple placed on the teachers desk.

If they want anyone to take them at their word, they’d ferret out the members of the royal family that were and are supporting Al-Qaida. Still haven’t seen any of that since ‘01. Not a damned one of them.

I wonder how many were arrested for simply listening to subversive Western music, dancing and showing their ankles in public?

“..involved in different plots against the kingdom ...”

They get involved only to protect their own butts.

If you are a Saudi who wants to kill people and blow up things or yourself, members of the Saudi royal family will be more than glad to fund you so long as you follow one rule - leave Saudi Arabia to do it.

It is the carrot and stick. You get the carrot if you want to cause trouble outside Saudi Arabia and you get the stick if you want to cause problems inside it.

I was in Riyadh in 1988 for a few months on a particular military venture.

The US government hired some Saudis to guard our living compound. It was a square compound, and the Saudis were supposed to have an armed guard in a vehicle placed at each corner. I didn’t leave the compound terribly often, because there wasn’t much to do.

Almost every time I left the compound I could see that all four of the guards were sitting together in one small area having a chat, usually, with their weapons in their cars. It was a joke, and helped me formulate the opinion that the Saudis really don’t care about us at all.

I was 23 years old at the time, and my opinion has not budged.

Are they the Wahabisist that the Saudis fund and promote or those who wish to overthrow the House of Saud?

That was my first thought. Saudi Arabia funds the Wahhabi Islamists and by proxy endorses them.

... But when the blowback from these terrorists threatens their money-making oil wells, here come the Saudi police cars power-sliding around corners in packs of thirty.

If terrorists threaten the Kingdom’s oil (which is where they get their $$$), they arrest them. If terrorists threaten the US or anyone else whom the Saudis don’t like, that’s fine by them.

They’ll probably be released shortly anyway. That’s our great ally Saudi Arabia pulling for us /sarc

Al Qadah is not going to be welcome anywhere, thanks to the American Troops narrowing their area’s of operation, nobody else wants losers around either.
