Even More Indianapolis Talk Changes

The chain reaction triggered by 1070 WIBC’s impending move to 93.1 FM continues to shake up the Indianapolis market. In late October, Cumulus’ FM Talker 93.9 WWFT announced plans to drop its format in favor of Christmas music. That move occurred today.

However, WWFT’s programming will continue on in the Indianapolis market as Pilgrim Communication’s southern rimshot “Gold 95.9″ WIAU Franklin will drop its Oldies format on Monday to become WFDM “Freedom 95.9“. WFDM will feature all of the syndicated hosts that had been heard on WWFT: Mancow, Laura Ingraham, Dave Ramsey, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, and Mark Levin.

A bit off topic, but I really would like to see WIBC stop powering down right in the middle of Paul Harvey’s rest of the story. It is so annoying. They power down (AM stations power down at night) at exactly 5:30, just as Harvey is wrapping up the segment. They could at least wait to power down until his segment is finished.

Interesting they are switching Garrison and Dave Wilson. Garrison will probably pick up the political people after Rush, which will continue whatever Rush has been discussing.

I like Wilson, who is a Republican although hasn't been very political. He is funny and able to make light of the democrats without sounding mean-spirited.

It will be interesting to see how this change in schedules plays out.

They are moving Dave Wilson to morning?

They are required to power down by federal law. They don’t have discretion as to what time.

I have no idea why they are moving Wilson. I thought his show was great for drive time, but maybe they are trying to pick up more morning people against whatever the competition is.

Well, then they need to move Harvey’s segment up. They have to know that half of their audience is north and loses the signal entirely when they perform the stupid power down. And the rest of the story is pretty frustrating when you get static at the exact moment Harvey is tying the whole thing together.

I wonder if his show will survive the time change. He’ll be up against Glenn Beck on 1430.

All I’m saying is why would you do a power down in the middle of a 3 minute segment when you could just as easily wait until the segment is over or move the segment up? Seems poor planning on the part of WIBC.

I thought there was nothing wrong with that headline. It needed no comma. Aren’t they talking about talk radio changes?

Even More Indianapolis Talk (radio) Changes

I am not sure but I thought the headline referred to talk radio stations changing their formats.

True but they gotta follow FCC regs. Time when a station
powers down or changes direction (because of other
stations on their frequency) varies with the sunset.
Map of WIBC’s night signal:

keep in mind the news/talk moves to FM in a little while,
so that shouldn’t be a problem

It will be a relief when they do move. Paul Harvey is getting up there in years, so each one of those segments is approaching the final one. Hopefully they’ll release a cd of them or something.

I didn’t know Dave Wilson was a republican. He is funny in short bursts though. Have you ever seen him? Great face for radio.

Now if only Abdul would get away from that Heathkit transmitter over at WXNT and get a little higher profile.
