I was stationed at Hauchuca in the summer of 2000 for training and enjoyed hiking at Cornado. I often would often find clothing, blankets, water bottles and other items discarded by individuals crossing over from Mexico. You are spot on about it being complete wilderness with nobody around for miles. I wouldn’t hike there again unless I was armed.

I always carry a lion tag in my wallet and .44 or .45 holstered on my hip. Lions are in season year-round. Gives me an excuse, just in case I need it.
