Don Feder gave a long address detailing cultural criticism (from the conservative point of view) of the family as seen by Hollywood. There is no force more destructive of traditional values and faith than the American cinema. If we want to preserve what we cherish for future generations, we must begin to change how Hollywood sees the family and our deepest values.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

How many parent know or even care, that “Leave It To Beaver” episodes are still aired on TV? I even tune it in from time to time, to stir old memories, where the daddies went out to earn money for food, clothing and shelter for their families, and mommies stayed home, raising the children, and praising the daddies?

“Bella” is not a “Christian” film but is a film with a very powerful message. It is family-friendly, immerses one in the the harsh realities of life in NYC, is not preachy, and probably the best movie I’ve seen in the last ten years. Absolutely... extraordinary. If you haven’t seen it, go this weekend...

That, and the Andy Griffith Show, and the Food Network are among the few TV items welcome in our home. Oh, and Glenn Beck! :)

Go to "Bella" though. It is NOT the typical crap that comes out of Hollywood.

For the rest, I agree with you 100%.

Hollyweird is making itself irrelevant. Another in its litany of anti-American and anti-war movies has tanked big time (Lions for Lambs), and even the numbnuts in Hollyweird are worried about the saleability of their next spate of anti-American stuff.

“Bella”, you’ve seen it?

The article does mention that movie, at least it’s not “Redacted”. (gag)

Saw it last night. It is one thing to complain about what's out there. It is another to vote with one's wallet for the rare exception like "Bella". You will not regret seeing this uplifting film.

I avoid R-rated movies. Even PG-13 can have gratuitous sex and violence. The recent movie comedy “Wild Hogs” was a hit with the public, and the critics didn’t especially care for it. No sex or slashing...

At my house, we have a theory that the same 10-gay-men write all the scripts for movies and TV.

“Wild Hogs” = Men urinating, right?

I can’t tell you how disgusting that is to me, seriously.

Hollywood can’t make a traditional “love story” film anymore (not that I would go to them, but women and couples would) EXCEPT in the “independent” theater chains where every trailer you will see is for a “love awakening, blossoming...” as a formerly straight man is seduced by another man. Been that way since the 1990s.

I buy/rent older movies and foreign films also there are good documentaries (that will never get the attention of Oscar). There are PLENTY of foreign films that won’t play at theaters for the so called “diverse” audiences. Japan, Spain, England, Czech, etc. Plenty of movies that are different from everything else you’ve seen. Occassionally Hollywood sees fit to remake the films but rarely to present the originals.

I get Feder’s points, but disagree with his conclusion. Hollywood is a whore, and it’s always been a whore. Hollywood once produced a highly santized version of America that was as far removed from the real world as it is today, because it sold. Today Hollywood produces a sexier more macho America that’s equally removed from reality, because it sells.

Unfortunately Feder never once address the most important part of the equation. It sells. If cartoon superhero like violence and overly sexualized movies bombed regularly, they wouldn’t be made.

Excellent article! BTT.

I love going to the local library and checking out the old movies, and would encourage everyone to do it.
