ONTARIO - There has been no rest for Linawati Tambunan, who witnessed her 7-year-old child's death more than three years ago. "It's another day I go to bed and blame myself," Tambunan said at a news conference Monday morning at which the District Attorney's Office announced a murder warrant with the bond set at $1 million for Candidio Renteria Peraza.

Police say Tambunan saw Peraza twice drive his Chevrolet Suburban over her son, Nathan Sitompul, on July 23, 2004.

Tambunan, and her husband, Humaula Sitompul, who now live in Fontana, stood alongside Ontario police to ask the public's help in finding Peraza.

Police spokesman Anthony Ortiz said that although police had exhausted all leads, they still want to help bring closure to the family.

"This is a horrendous act in taking the life of a child," Ortiz said. "We will not stop until we locate this killer, and people should identify this person for who he is - a child killer."

Police said Nathan, who was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk near the alley of Elderberry Avenue and J Street, was first knocked from his bike by Peraza's Suburban.

Peraza momentarily stopped his vehicle, then drove over Nathan a second time and fled the scene, Ortiz said.

Nathan was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Tambunan was emotional as she discussed the loss of her son, and in describing her frustration that the suspect has not been found.

"And here is Mr. Peraza out there like nothing happened," said Tambunan, crying. Ortiz said Peraza is wanted on suspicion of murder because driving over the child a second time was an intentional act.

Detective John Lerouge, the case agent, said the suspect could be hiding in the community. Peraza has family in Ontario, Fontana, Montclair and in surrounding areas.

Ortiz said police are working with U.S. marshals to find Peraza, who might have fled to Mexico.

"There is a good level of cooperation with Mexican authorities as long as the sentence is not the death penalty," Ortiz said.

Peraza previously served two years in prison for drug trafficking and was deported to Mexico in 1999.

Ortiz said Peraza was in the country illegally at the time of Nathan's death.

"Nathan did not have to die," Ortiz said. "If the person did the right thing, Nathan would have been here with us today."

Peraza is described as a 180-pound Latino male, who is 5 feet 8 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes and a scar on his right hand.

WeTip will issue an reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the conviction of Peraza.

Anyone that has information on the case can call the anonymous hot line at (800) 78-CRIME or the Ontario Police Department (909) 395-2001.

I don't normally post articles such as this, because as anyone who lives in California, illegal immigrants committing crimes and fleeing to Mexico is a routine occurance. I did, however, find this case paticularly egregious.

Yes, the entire world has to adjust it's laws to suit Mexico.

As I have heard, it is not hard or expensive to arrange someone's murder inside prison. Usually some money to people on the outside will do it. If someone murdered my child I would make sure they paid with their life.

I suspect that “a good level of cooperation” means that they smile, and smile, but somehow can’t manage to find the guy.

Not that I approve, but we've also had problems with Canada when it comes to extradition of criminals wanted for capital offences.

He may have ‘acquired’ a new ID by now.

I talked to a fella in Toronto last week, and he said because of the crack-down in the US, many illegals are sneaking accross the border into Canada, recently.

Uh ...............what?? 3 years to issue a warrant for a murder done in plain sight and they are bitching that the murderer is, ahem, gone?

Why aren't they attacking the police force itself?

It’s the all immigrant version of DeathSport2000. A Mexican illegal alien mows down the son of Linawati Tambunan. Who are Indonesian immigrants. I wonder if they are legal. My guess is they are.

All that aside it’s another instance of a drunken illegal alien callously killing someone then fleeing the scene. For Mexico most likely

Driving a Suburban onto the sidewalk to run over someone once must be legal.
