AUSTIN — An ultra low-cost air carrier Monday announced it will begin service out of Austin Bergstrom International Airport and hopes to attract passengers with its price -- starting at $9.99.

The U.S. Department of Transportation granted Mexico's vivaAerobus the right to fly out of ABIA Monday afternoon. The carrier will fly nonstop to Cancun, Guadalajara, León, Monterrey, Puebla, and Queretaro.

The airline is no frills, and it will have a new terminal that will have no jet bridges, sophisticated baggage handling, gates or ticket counters.

Mike Szucs of the airline declares this ... is bringing lots of tourists to "the beautiful cities in Mexico" and serving business in Texas. I hate it when people are dishonest.

THAT'S how we will deport 12 million people.

I'll sponsor a planeload.

Shall we start a fund drive? Maybe outdo Ron Paul for one day fundraisers?.

There are already bargain airlines that serve from the interior of Mexico to the border cities. Most return nearly empty.

I am sure that it will not happen in this case ... yeah, right.

Whoever heard of someone overstaying a visa?

Great! A Mexican airline charging $10 for flights.I think I’d have a better chance of walking away from an Air Bangladesh flight.

“THAT’S how we will deport 12 million people.”

Probably more humane than my idea, a giant catapult.

Or Mackey International Airlines (remember them? "Fly Mackey - No Come Backey".

They plied their trade between Ft. Lauderdale, W. Palm, Grand Bahama, Providenciales (Turks & Caicos) and Cap Haitien, Haiti, in superannuated DC6-Bs.

One time in Provo they couldn't get the inboard port engine on the plane to crank -- so they offloaded everybody, the pilot took the plane down to the end of the (coral) runway, stood on the brakes, revved the other three engines up to top speed, popped the brakes, roared down the runway, successfully propped the dead motor, and then taxied back into the 'terminal' (a corrugated shed populated by chickens and the occasional stray dog). We climbed back on board with SOME trepidation -- but, hey, that was aviation in the islands in the 60s!

For $10 a head we can bring the illegal level down close to zero.

They just had that on Mythbusters this afternoon. They managed to get 211 feet, but were having trouble with the launch (the dummy kept falling out prematurely). I bet if we applied our minds we could get it up to around 450-500 feet easily.

This could be the start of something big.

Ten bucks? What does no frills mean? A cargo plane with a strap for each passenger?
