I started to get a headache just trying to read the main posting. But the pictures are great. Rather inspiring. We remember all their sacrifices.

I can understand that - it may have taken awhile for it to take hold and get out there. This did not happen I think until 1956 or so, starting with the 1st Amphib Recon Co, then spreading to MCRD, then to the FMF. I liked that version, the current version takes no “umph” and sounds ridiculous. Here’s to you and to our Corps!

Thanks for the history and the pics.

I am the first in my family to join the Corps.
Since then other family members to join are: 1 brother and his two sons and another nephew (different brother).
The last one just wrapped up his second tour in Iraq.

Back in my day a slang term for the Corps was “The Crotch”.
As in “ I love The Crotch.”

This was not said in a derogatory way, in fact quite the opposite.
When you were in The Crotch you were in a safe harbor.

I asked my nephews if the term was still in use but they never heard it used before I asked about it.

Semper Fi to the two of you for your outstanding attention to detail. It’s not the first time a young devil dog has had to master bladder control in the presence of their commanding officer or in other time of extremis and excitement. I recall a former mascot, who’s long since past away, who relieved himself during a parade and received a page 11 entry for the same.

The most formidable fighting force the world has ever known was founded in a bar in Philadelphia....

After contemplating that for a few moments, you can almost feel sorry for our nation’s enemies: The poor b@st@rds don’t stand a chance.
