NEW DELHI (AP) -- India's Tata said Thursday it received a $1.2 billion contract from American market research firm Nielsen - the biggest outsourcing order ever won by an Indian company...

Under the 10-year contract, Tata Consultancy, known as TCS, will offer a host of services to Nielsen, from management of its information technology infrastructure to back-office work such payroll processing and tracking human resources.

TCS, India's top outsourcing company, will also provide consulting services and set up an innovation lab to develop next generation business solutions for New York-based Nielsen.

This is the first time an Indian company has won an outsourcing order valued more than $1 billion.

Mumbai-based TCS had previously won a $847 million contract from U.K.-based Pearl Group, a pension and insurance company...

Tata's revenue, profits up, despite weak dollar
India's largest outsourcer announces strong growth; Tata improved its profitability through currency hedging and cost management
By John Ribeiro, IDG News Service

infoworld.com

India's largest outsourcer, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced Monday strong growth in revenue and profits for the quarter that ended Sept. 30, despite earlier fears that the appreciation of the Indian rupee against the dollar would drive down profits of Indian outsourcers.

The company has absorbed the impact of the rupee appreciation, and improved its profitability, by a combination of currency hedging and cost management, TCS, of Mumbai, said Monday.

TCS reported revenue of $1.42 billion for the quarter, up 45.2 percent over revenue in the same quarter last year. Its profits for the quarter were $313 million, up 45 percent from the corresponding quarter last year. The company added 9,268 staff during the quarter, and currently employs over 100,000 employees. Foreign nationals made up 8.5 percent of total staff. TCS also added 49 new clients in the quarter...

India's largest outsourcer, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has set up a global delivery center in Guadalajara, Mexico, with plans to hire up to 5,000 staff there over the next five years.

Having a center in Mexico helps TCS, of Mumbai, as it will be closer to U.S. customers and on a similar time zone, Pradipta Bagchi, a spokesman for TCS, said on Thursday...

Indian outsourcer Tata cashes in on offshoring
Revenue was up 42 percent, profit was up 33 percent over the same quarter last year
By John Ribeiro, IDG News Service
July 18, 2006
infoworld.com

India outsourcer Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Tuesday reported gains in both revenue and profit for the quarter ended June 30, reflecting a growing demand for offshore services and the depreciation of the Indian rupee against major currencies.

TCS, of Mumbai, is India's largest software and services outsourcer.

Revenue for the period was $900 million, up by 42 percent from the same quarter last year. Profit for the quarter increased by 33 percent from a year earlier to $187 million.

The results are based on U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and refer to the first quarter of the company's fiscal year, which runs from April 1 to March 31 next year.

About 53 percent of the company's revenue in the quarter came from exports to North America, with another 27 percent from Europe. The company earned about 41 percent of its revenue from the banking and financial services industry. The company added 62 clients during the quarter, taking the total to 764.

The company hired 4,698 employees, increasing the headcount as of June 30 to 71,190. The company's staff attrition rate was 10.6 percent.

TCS' strong showing reflects an overall buoyancy in the Indian outsourcing industry. India's exports of software and services are expected to grow by 27 percent to 30 percent in the year ending March 31, to post revenue between $29 billion to $31 billion, India's National Association of Software and Service Companies said in June.

Revenues, Profits Soar At India's Top Outsourcer, Tata
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., India's foremost software developer, reported Thursday that its third-quarter profit rose 54 percent, to $162 million.

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. reported Thursday that its third-quarter profit rose 54 percent, to $162 million (7.09 rupees), on revenues that rose 38 percent, to 25.8 billion rupees. Tata is India's largest software developer and that country's largest offshore outsourcer providing services to foreign customers.

General Electric, Tata's biggest customer, is expected to provide "marginal" growth in coming months, Tata said. India's second largest offshore outsourcing firm--Infosys Technologies--also reported soaring revenues and profits yesterday, as Indian firms continue to upgrade their services to customers.

Tata reported that new orders came from 72 customers--15 of them represent sales of more than $1 million a year. Italian sports-car manufacturer Ferrari SpA placed new orders with Tata, which said it will perform "core engine-design services" for its strategic partner.

In a statement, Tata's chief executive officer and managing director, S. Ramadorai, said: "Excellent teamwork between TCS and its subsidiaries have resulted in a strong growth momentum across all geographies, domains, and offerings." The company has a total of 506 active customers, and the firm said it also obtained significant customer wins with major media and entertainment-industry studios.

The firm reported that it added 2733 employees, bringing its total headcount to 43,681. Tata gets most of its outsourcing revenue from work performed at customer locations, while remote locations, such as India, accounted for about 40 percent of revenue.

Odd, they usually enjoy a good Huma Interest story.

Very large and influential corporation.

I will point out that $778 in lodging costs is quite low for two people at any world-class hotel in India.

Unless they were two to a room, or unless HRC stayed at a Best Western.

No, these are only Huma Abedin's half of the trip.

For every Huma Abedin reimbursement, there's a matching Hillary Clinton reimbursement.

The Cliff Notes version would be as in the title: Huma Abedin & Hillary Clinton were repeatedly wined & dined by the world's leading jobs outsourcer, Tata Consultancy Services, and by its parent company, the Tata Group.

The rest of it is documentation.

Hillary’s Mystery Woman: Who Is Huma?
Senator Clinton’s closest aide, Ms. Abedin never sweats; Oscar de la Renta wants to dress her

Hillary Clinton’s mysterious, glamorous and eerily unflappable aide de camp, Huma Abedin.

she has accompanied Mrs. Clinton to more than 20 events, involving nine plane flights and several trains.

She’s something of a mystery, even to the people who have worked in her proximity for years.

Very little is publicly known about her, which of course leaves plenty to talk about. And the rumors abound. According to various accounts from Huma acquaintances interviewed for this story: She’s Lebanese, she’s Jordanian, she’s Iranian, she’s 26, she’s 36, she has two children, she lives with the Clintons.

“No one knows anything about her,” said one political aide. “She’s like Hillary’s secret weapon.”

“This might seem too over-saccharine, but I love Huma,” said Oscar de la Renta, who is a personal friend and intensely loyal supporter of the Clintons. The legendary designer was speaking to The Observer on the phone from his compound in the Dominican Republic. He has known her for nearly a decade. Indeed, he noted, Ms. Abedin has actually been a guest at his island home. He described her as “discreet,” “loyal,” “beautiful” and “half-Pakistani.”

He recalled that she had great style, but hastened to point out that “she’s a Muslim” and “she’s very conservative.”

“I always say I don’t want to die without seeing [Huma] in a strapless dress,” he said, with a laugh. But did the dapper dressmaker know, say, where his dream girl grew up?

Clinton was going on and on,
saying how awful offshoring is, and especially saying how awful Bush is
for allowing it. But then Dobbs pointed out that Clinton herself was
very closely allied with Tata Consultancy Services, an Indian offshoring
giant. Clinton looked obviously startled and nervous, and then agreed
that TCS is indeed an offshoring giant.

Clinton tried to justify herself by pointing out that Tata had created
10 jobs in Buffalo, NY after Clinton had helped Tata established itself
there. Gee, 10 whole jobs! Remember, TCS has thousands of H-1Bs and
L-1s in the U.S. But even if that number 10 does grow, the key point is
that those jobs won’t be filled by Americans. Tata has admitted that
most of the jobs it opens in the U.S. are filled with Indians. (See

Hillary Clinton stands up for Tatas, outsourcing
CHIDANAND RAJGHATTA
TIMES NEWS NETWORK, FRIDAY, MARCH 05, 2004

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/538674.cms

WASHINGTON: Former First Lady Hillary Clinton on Wednesday defended the
general principles of free trade and outsourcing, while rejecting
suggestions that she was allowing Indian info-tech major Tata Consultancy
Services (TCS) to take away jobs from the state that elected her to the
Senate.

“Of course, I know they outsource,” Clinton retorted. “But they have also
brought jobs and they intend to be a source of new jobs in the state.”

“We are not against all outsourcing; we are not in favour of putting up
fences,” Clinton said firmly, adding that Americans were capable of
competing against anyone if they summoned the will.
