IIRC, some candidates (both parties) have claimed states' rights regarding such issues as driver's licenses for illegals, too.

For the same reason we cant deny people the right to free speech at the state level we cant deny people life.. I guess God given rights are only ok if the state legislature says so right?

Assure all innocent human beings have a right to life is an example of big government? What is the point of having any government structure if it can't protect the right to life of its citizens?

I think that the states ought to be free to make their own abortion laws, but it would take a constitutional amendment that specifically overturns Casey to make that work. What’s to keep a federal court from voiding a state law? That explains the language of the platform. American abortion law is so extreme it effectively nullifies the right of the state to make law in this area.
