The euro, worth 83 cents in the early George W. Bush years, is at $1.45.
The British pound is back up over $2, the highest level since the Carter era. The Canadian dollar, which used to be worth 65 cents, is worth more than the U.S. dollar for the first time in half a century.
Oil is over $90 a barrel. Gold, down to $260 an ounce not so long ago, has hit $800.
Have gold, silver, oil, the euro, the pound and the Canadian dollar all suddenly soared in value in just a few years?
Nope. The dollar has plummeted in value, more so in Bush's term than during any comparable period of U.S. history. Indeed, Bush is presiding over a worldwide abandonment of the American dollar.
Is it all Bush's fault? Nope.
The dollar is plunging because America has been living beyond her means, borrowing $2 billion a day from foreign nations to maintain her standard of living and to sustain the American Imperium.

We are importing more each year and have a larger trade deficit each year
Like toddler likes to proclaim --
WE ARE AN IMPORTING SUPERPOWER!!!
I know some hard core protectionist such as my brother in law who is a electrician. However even he buys goods made in China. We were doing an addition to my house and we went to Lowes to get some materials. Did he or I look at every single item and look for the made in China label?
No. We wanted to get a 6 hour job done and not look at labels for 2 hours.
We both try to buy Made in America products as much as possible but we also have a life and realize we cannot spend precious hours of each day comparing labels.
If you have truly only bought 2-3 items made in China since 1989, and you remember what they were, which I really doubt, you need hardcore professional pschyiatric help. There is a serious mental illness involved.
I did buy some socks at T.J.Maxx yesterday, so I wouldn’t have to walk in my bare feet this winter. Made in U.S.A. (Gold Toe). I’m heading out to the grocery store in a short while, I’ll let you know where my garlic comes from . . . I don’t drink apple juice from concentrate, I drink apple juice made in U.S.A. with U.S.-grown apples (Indian Summer). I don’t eat catfish, I’ll let you know the next time I buy shrimp (which is rarely). My honey comes from May’s Honey Farms in Harvard, Illinois.
Keep whining. Or explain how the trade deficit has hurt us.
I shop. I compare. I spend the time. The mental illness is called anti-communism, and I am a capitalist tool. Your mental illness, if I may, is called laziness (defined in economic terms as "I don't care to spend the extra time in order to shop I'd rather come to FR and whine that I can't find what I want).
No Rude it's called "having a life". Besides if you are as anti-communist as you say how come you don't scream from the roof tops along with us fellow "protectionist" the huge trade inbalance on threads dealing with China?
Instead all you do is belittle people who complain about it.
You are nothing but a liar and a fraud.
The few who were well positioned are getting rich.
Maybe we need a windfall tax /sarc
BUMP
Pathetic. The Federal government must force me to pay more for my made-in-USA products that I go out of my way to find because you can't lift a damn finger. What's the word that you dolts are so fond of using? That's right, "traitor."
Keep whining. Or explain how the trade deficit has hurt us.
By now it's obvious to all except fools. Idiocy like yours make me buy gold and oil to protect myself
But GW Bush is no better. His administration does nothing about the trade deficit
Fool, you have lots of company
But old man Bush#41 is "free traitor" all the way but protects himself against the idiocy he preaches. He's a major in Barrick gold which is up 2.41% today
Check out my post 550 for Bush seniors gold investments
Than even a fool like you could explain it, but you can't or won't. But you're really good at whining.
*Then*
Higher prices, to make the lazy whiners feel better about themselves!
one water pad (RPS Products) made in U.S.A.I also got a haircut, and Patrick told me his scissors were made in Germany.
two 9v batteries (Duracell) made in U.S.A.,
one 1.55v battery (Energizer) made in U.S.A.,
one Honeycrisp apple (Univ. of Minnesota--chuckle) made in U.S.A.,
twelve 16oz beers (SABMiller) made in U.S.A.,
one 1.5L bottle red wine (Concha y Toro) made in Chile,
six tomatoes (Oceanside Produce) made in U.S.A., one porterhouse steak (generic*) made in U.S.A., and two sirlion burger patties (generic*) made in U.S.A.
____
*the butcher at Jewel/Osco told me the meat is not imported
er....ummmmm....globalist!
The kid at BatteriesPlus (I was about to type “snot-nosed”—lol) gave an audible sigh when I made him go into the back room and retrieve the package for the watch battery. I suppose I need to “get a life.”
I forgot to mention that the Honeycrisp apple cost me $1.62 and I saved the seeds for that reason. Let’s see the University of Minnesota come after me for patent infringement . . . maybe the WTO will get involved as a bonus!
Try going to USA Made sites. Already previously listed...and unchallenged by you.
