New Book by Media Analyst Brent Bozell Shows How Journalists Refuse to Investigate Serious Charges or Report Clinton Scandals

Alexandria, Va., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As Sen. Hillary Clinton dominates the Democratic presidential field, L. Brent Bozell in his new book, Whitewash: What the Media Won't Tell You About Hillary Clinton, But Conservatives Will (Crown Forum, Nov. 2007), exposes the shocking extent to which the media have failed to ask Sen. Clinton pertinent questions or thoroughly investigate a single charge against her.

"The national media have flagrantly abandoned their duty as independent and dispassionate journalists," write Bozell and co-author Tim Graham. "When Republicans are investigated by the media, it is done with such tenacity it usually leads to a humiliating resignation or electoral defeat. When there is a hint of impropriety by the Clintons, the media react quite differently:

a) By ignoring the allegation, as NPR and PBS did for 500 days after Whitewater broke,

b) By turning the story into an investigation of the Clinton's accusers, which Mrs. Clinton usually claims to be conservative Republicans, or a "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy,"

c) With little investigation, the issue is not resolved,

d) The public grows weary of it and no longer cares about the end result.

Presenting stunning new evidence, Whitewash reveals how the national media bury stories that could damage Hillary's presidential chances, whether it's her new fundraising scandals, her refusal to release official documents of her activities as First Lady or the latest allegation that she listened to wiretap recordings of Republican opponents' phone calls.

Bozell and Graham show how the national media turned Hillary into a presidential contender in the first place, despite her lack of political experience and her repeated scandals. Whitewash exposes the media's shameless -- and ongoing -- fawning over Mrs. Clinton, including:

-- How scandals like fundraiser Norman Hsu's criminality are ignored or downplayed; but if the story breaks out, reporters turn it into an attack on "mean spirited" Republicans and their "politics of personal destruction."

-- How Hillary grants network interviews - but only on the condition that they are pre-taped and without debate; and how rather than challenge her, reporters simply marvel at her.

-- How supposedly "objective" reporters regularly shower Hillary with embarrassing praise about how she's a combination of "Betty Crocker, Mother Teresa, and Oliver Wendell Holmes."

-- Why Hillary's claim in her best-selling book that she was "gasping for breath" when she allegedly learned the truth of the Monica Lewinsky allegations in August of 1998 is patently untrue, and how the media have covered up polls showing that only 11 percent of Americans believe this lie.

Whitewash corrects the record, and in exclusive interviews with Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Newt Gingrich, Mark Levin and others, reveals how the "drive-by" media, (as Rush calls them) refuse to cover the Clintons with the same blood-thirsty drive as other public officials.

L. Brent Bozell, III is founder and president of the Media Research Center, the nation's leading media watchdog organization. He is the author of Weapons of Mass Distortion and a nationally syndicated columnist. Tim Graham is Director of Media Analysis for the Media Research Center.

Wonder what the quid pro quo is, or if it’s purely ideological.

She’s going to be toast during the debates and real electioneering come after the convention. She’ll not have had any training in how to fight back or learn how to debate, short of her “I-can’t-believe-you-asked-me-that-question!” cackle, because the other libs are just there for show. There may be a lot of fighting between the Republicans, but that only hones their fighting skills for the future.

I think it’s probably the latter. But I have a really bad feeling about this next election.

The first tough question at a President HRC press conference will resemble Sadaam Hussein’s video of his personal Baathist Party purge.

Rush was just discussing Spitzer and his licenses for illegals scam, saying—the amazing thing is that Mrs. Clinton gets to be quiet...this is her state and she is running for president and she is not getting peppered by the press. It’s amazing how she gets to skate...it may be too radioactive, writes the AP—WELL, GO ASK HER!!!

This Is a "Flawless" Campaign?

Well, I hope you're right, but I heard similar things prior to her first run for NY Senator. Remember how everyone was all giddy and bubbly and atwitter about how the supposedly "tough NY press" was going to hammer Hillary! into little pieces? Look what happened: they slobbered and fawned over her like everyone else does. Then Lazio was supposed to tear Hillary! apart during their debates because she was supposedly so unprepared and ill-at-ease in an open debate format. Well, look how that one went. The press either hammered him for "picking on a woman", or if he did get the best of her on substance, it didn't matter, because the sheeple wanted to vote for Hillary anyway no matter how badly she did in the debates.

The point the article is making is that the mainstream media is going to cheer-lead for Hillary! like they never have for anyone else before. They're going to grease the skids and utterly destroy whoever ends up being her challenger. Like it or not, the majority of the electorate still gets their information from "traditional" media. This election is going to be All Hillary All The Time in the media, mark my words.

This election is going to be All Hillary All The Time in the media, mark my words.

It already is now! Today on Fox & Friends the author of the new book on President Ford was going on about how even Ford thought Mrs. Clinton would be president. Ruined my morning!

RUSH: "Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton has dominated news coverage of the 2008 White House race, partly due to negative segments about her on conservative talk radio, according to a new study released on Monday. Clinton was the main subject of 17 percent of stories during the first five months of this year, almost twice as much coverage as the leading Republican candidate, Rudy Giuliani, who had 9 percent, the study found. The tone of coverage for the two during that period was about equal -- roughly 37 percent of stories were negative while 27 percent were positive. ... Conservative radio show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh have criticized Clinton for years, from her days as the first lady in the 1990s to New York senator and now candidate for the November 2008 presidential election. The review found that 86 percent of..." the Rush Limbaughs of the world comments and "their segments on her were negative."

My friends, this is not good enough. We are not doing our job. Only 86% are negative? Who are the ones making the 14% positive comments? That's what I want to know. Who among us, the Rush Limbaughs of the world? We have work to do here, folks. This needs to be up to 100% negative, if we are said to be doing our job. By the way, this survey was done by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and Harvard University's Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy. That happens to be where Marvin Kalb works. So this was distressing to me. Only 86% negative. Of course, I wonder how many positive stories NPR, the liberals' official government radio network, has done on George W. Bush? Could we have a study of that, you people at the Project for Excellence in Journalism and the Shorenstein Center for whoever at Harvard? Just a little tit-for-tat would be nice.

We're Only 86% Critical of Hillary?

We ain’t seen nothin’ yet. These are just the warm-ups compared to what’s coming. Once Hillary’s coronation as the official ‘Rat nominee is complete, the mainstream media is going to launch a Hillary! bandwagon the likes of which we’ve not seen before. They’re going to build her up and build her up prior to the election that it’s going to be like an unstoppable freight train that will crush anyone the ‘Pubs nominate, McCain and Giuliani included. Remember how desperate the media was to elect a female Speaker of the House in ‘06? That will be nothing compared to what they will do to elect Hillary! in ‘08.

If she is ahead, and she will be, there won’t be any debates.

I believe that certain media organizations have been promised a lofty position in Hillary’s “new order”, while any one not willing to play ball will be outlawed or forced out of business. Hillary understands the power of (a stete-run) media and she took care of that aspect long ago.

You’re right about the Lazio thing. I think the press will simply replay the M O and attack anyone as beastly for even asking a question that makes her uncomfortable.

Msm outlets (CBS, NBC, ABC) have shown their political bias for democrats, in general, and for Hillary Clinton, in particular. Why are their broadcast licenses not being challenged in whatever venue handles such matters?
