"No one likes the food in there," said Jenny Montalvo, an eleventh grader. "It's kinda crappy."

Typical government response: instead of improving its food so that the kids will want to eat in the cafeteria, the school district wants to outlaw the competition.

It works out real good. The kids just like it with all the diversity.

There's one kind of diversity the government schools think is bad.

The proposed ordinance likely will meet legal challenges which would waste resources; a much easier approach would be to lock down the school grounds at lunch time.

It will only work if Nguyen give them a cut.

Money. That's the real issue.

Close on your analysis, but socialists just don't care what anyone wants so long as they can control what the people are allowed to have.

Actually, there is one kind of diversity the government schools think is GOOD. Skin color. All other kinds are not really allowed, as far as I can tell.

Yup. It's amazing what institutional food can be when the parties are properly motivated.

My daughter's college is really proud of the cafeteria. And they should be. I've eaten there even when it's NOT parents' weekend, and it's astonishing how good (and healthy) the food is. The cafeteria at my old college in the 70s was so bad, nobody ate there but first semester freshmen. I'm not sure how they stayed in business, maybe the guys from the engineering college didn't notice what they were eating . . . .

School cafeteria “food” is a joke.

Just wait until these morons run healthcare.

Skin color isn’t really much of an issue in Los Altos, is it?
I would think the “diversity” of sexual orientation would be much more enforced.

I’d like to know what the cafeteria offers that really is so much more health conscience. It seems, at least from my child’s lunch menu, that they still offer a lot of processed foods.

Money. That's the real issue.

The cafeteria gets reimbursed from the Feds for each meal that they serve to students. Actually at different rates depending of family income, but still on all students.
A cafeteria is supposed to be self-sufficient, but profits go to the general fund.
You are right. It is all about the money.
When I was a senior, I believe I may have eaten at least one meal in the cafeteria, but not many more.

Just for speculation, I wonder how this would go if Julie Nguyen - likely a LEGAL immigrant since it’s tough to swim from Vietnam - was instead Carlos Sanchez, an undocumented migrant from Merida.

Any different?

Just who does Nguyen think she is? A Vietnamese immigrant, coming to OUR country, seeing an unfilled niche, hiring people, working hard to fill an obvious need in her community. How dare she do things the old-fashion American way, in the face of official opposition? If allowed to get away with this affront, the next thing is additional employees, more trucks and future prosperity for all. Can’t allow it, can they???
God Bless America. (or God HELP America)

maybe they need to ban bringing food from home as well, so that the school can ensure that students are eating healthy... plus this way they can make sure nobody brings any of those illegal peanut butter sandwiches.

All about the money. “*Wah!!* She’s taking our money from us.” It sounds like her offerings are healthier, too. Probably fresher, as well.
