Whether it’s a democracy or a republic or some combination of the two is irrelevant. The founders had the right idea. The franchise (right to vote) should be limited to property owners - or even better to taxpayers. This would minimize the effect of people voting themselves “gifts” from the public treasury.

We all know what would happen. The rats would buy an acre of land in every state and then sell rat voters a square millimeter for a penny so the voter fraud and consequent theft would continue.
