I don't think you can assume his roots are Hindu.

There are approximately 174 million Muslims in India (according to government census 2001), i.e 16.4% of the population. India has the second largest population of Muslims in the world (the largest being Indonesia).

‘Jindal’ is a Hindu surname. A Muslim in India wouldn’t have ‘Jindal’ as a surname (they would, instead, have an Arab surname). Besides, it is documented in many places that Bobby Jindal converted to Christianity as a teenager. His parents are still Hindu, and not Muslim.

I wasn't assuming anything, but rather stating what was likely. I did mention that there plenty of Muslims in India, as there are some Christians as well, and Sikhs too But most are Hindu.
