Well East Indians have caucasian facial features but most have dark skin, so while caucasian would technically be accurate, they're not "white" people by any literal definition of the word.

It's true alot of East Indian girls look very caucasian, basically seem like white girls with a dark tan. Here's the sexy Huma Naeem, a Jindal supporter:

I agree it's kind of silly to classify them as "Asian" when they have virtually nothing in common with people from Japan, China, Korea, etc.

Nevertheless, that IS how governments classify people descended from the India subcontinent... "East Asian". They are Indo-European by ethnicity but they not classified as "Caucasian" in the census.

Yes, and Arabs are classified as “white”, much to the dismay of some of my former neighbors in Brooklyn.
