Aye, but the “Official” (and therefore Sacred) definitions do not correspond to the ethnographic definitions.

The census definitions of racial classification are not “sacred.” They are merely advisory. Any person can list their race as whatever they consider themselves to be and it is possible to simply write in a race and not use the boxes provided at all.
Perhaps someone should inquire as to which racial classification box, if any Governor-elect Jindal and family checked on the 2000 census form.
What “ethnographic definitions” are you referring to? The Indian subcontinent is still situated on the Asian continent, is it not?
Mr. Jindal has referred in speeches to his ethnic/racial heritage as “Indian/South Asian.”
