"This is just one of the interesting facts cited in Frank Miniters new book, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Hunting. A book as sure as any that lives up to its title."

I’ve never gone hunting, and never killed anything larger than a bug.
I would like to try it, though, even if only once.

First big question: deer, other large game, or birds?
Once you decide that crucial question, it won't be hard to get set up to hunt.
Easiest way is to join a local hunting club. We belong to one for birds . . . for deer, we hunt on a friend's farm. They're all over the place in central GA, they're more of a nuisance than rats.

As an adult-onset hunter, I heartily encourage you to go hunting. If you never pull the trigger, you’ll still be better for the experience. An awful lot of my time afield amounts to bird watching with a bow, rifle or shotgun at hand.

Well, for birds you can join one of the
UKC Hunting Retriever clubs. You'll have a ball, you'll have to get a dog (or two, or more) of course.
For deer, join your local gun club. Or you can do a DNR Quota Hunt . You should take the hunter safety course first, naturally.

LOL! I just LOVE that one!
I'd hate to have to field dress a liberal, though, and I'm sure my Lab would flatly refuse to retrieve one.

Outside? I hear you got big deer up there.
To: DogByte6RER
They hide in these safe zones during the day when they might get shot and come out at night to eat the produce at nearby farms. LOL
Way back in the 30's-40's, growing up with my grampa, a Maine Guide - he used to say: "The deer have their own hunting season calender. They hide from the first day of hunting season to the last."
And they do.
They're also very good a keeping track of hunters in the woods. One day, at dusk, as I was driving down a country road, I passed a parked pickup.
Two hunters emerged from the woods and started walking down towards the truck.
Unbeknownst to them, two deer walked out of the woods some 100 yards below them, and watched them leave.
I could all but hear them: "Well, Martha, there they go for another day."
(Deer will keep a wide circle around hunters in the woods, to keep track of them.)
I laughed my head off for miles.
