So, the school needs a parent’s permission to give a child an aspirin, but the kid can get birth control without a parent being notified. Makes perfect sense. *shaking head in disgust*

Birth control pills can be dangerous drugs with severe side effects, especially in the hands of immature children. What happens if one of these girls decides to take several at a time? I hope the parents of the first girl to suffer side effects from the pill sues the school system into oblivion.

Moral issues aside, the silly liberals in Maine are so blinded by their ideology that they aren’t even considering the huge potential tort liability.

There’s always going to be some wacked out liberal here saying it will prevent unwanted births... and ignoring all the other facts on how damaging this will be towards children who use the pill and the consequences of this being allowed in our society.

The Portland school board on Wednesday approved a measure allowing middle-school students to gain access to prescription birth control medications without notifying parents.

Yet, you can't take that very same child to the dentist to have her teeth cleaned w/o parental notification.

How nice

That’s it, I give up.

Kids are suspended for bringing an an aspirin, ibuprofen, or Tylenol.

But dispensing reproductive health care and birth control for girls is fine.

Mike Gallagher was on there this morning saying something about outraged parents in Portland having some sort of revolution. I shouted at my radio, “what the heck are you talking about, well over half of those parents are crazed moonbats!” And so it goes.

Your children are not yours, they are the states. If you live in the Northeast or the West Coast, get used to it because majorities of Americans are freaking morons like the shmuck quoted in the article.

I can’t believe the school districts attorney would allow this to happen.
With the potential side effects of this DRUG , giving it to a child is just asking for a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the school district.

“Not every child is getting the guidance needed to keep them safe,” said Richard Veilleux, who said his child attends King Middle School. “This is about giving kids who are sexually active the tools that they need.”

This girlie man sperm donor needs to be taken to the woodshed and castrated so that he will NEVER produce any more children.

I bet there are a lot of teenage boys in Maine rejoicing today, and come to think of it, probably a lot of adult men too.

This is just one of the liberal sacraments: Teen sex, euthanasia and abortion.

I’m just curious, has there been a large number of pregnancies among Maine’s 11-13 year-olds in recent years?

The next story coming out of there would be middle school children "doing it" in the hallway or stairwells.

Will we be surprised?

IMHO, this is totally outrageous.

Absolutely.

The state undermines the authority of the parents.

The state sends the message to the kids that parents are just nice lovable old bumbling fools whose heads are filled with superstitions and old-fashioned nonsense, but they really mean well, it's just that parents aren't hip. Just humor the old folks and pretend to listen to them.

Oh, and we, the state, won't get in your way either, because we might get sued or called Un-P.C. names.

So go do whatever you want, children, because you kids are in charge!

My view is somewhat different:
The “government” puts fluoride and chlorine in our public water supplies, to protect us. I think they should also add birth control to the water supply, including bottled waters. Then, before a woman could become pregnant she must go to the “Office of Population Control” to get the antidote. To receive the antidote, a HSUBAND & WIFE must provide marriage license, 5 years of tax filings, proof of citizenship (no ‘anchor’ babies), etc. SARCASM.

This is stunning in its concept.

Do they think that drinking is acceptable for pre teens?

Do they think smoking is acceptable for pre-teens?

Do they think pre teens should be allowed to vote?

Do they think that pre teens should be able to serve in the military?

It is stunning that they think sexual activity is acceptable for pre teens.

>>>schools should circumvent parents when it comes to such decisions about their children’s’ behavior and health<<<

State departments of educations have been encompassing in loco parentis in their Healthy Schools programs. Healthy Schools is the evil offspring of Health People 2010 ( http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1563271/posts ) This is about MORE than issuing birth control. THIS is about changing parental rights with children to STAKEHOLDERS.

One of the things that’s so bad about this aside from the moral implications, (for those who need other reasons) is that most of the girls that age are just entering puberty. Putting these kinds of hormones is going to wreak havoc with their developing bodies.

The lawsuits are going to be flying in about 10-20 years when the consequences of this hit the fan.
