Yemeni al Qaeda leader Jamal Badawi has surrendered to police in Yemen. Badawi was the leader of the al Qaeda cell that responsible for the December 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in the port of Aden, Yemen. Al Qaeda carried out the bombing using suicide attackers in explosive-laden inflatable boats. Seventeen 17 US sailors were killed in the strike. The FBI placed a $5 million reward for Badawi's capture.

Badawi is believed to have surrendered to authorities after negotiations with the government to halt attacks in exchange for a reduced sentence or freedom if he promises to eschew violence. Yemen has had a revolving door policy of jailing and releasing al Qaeda operatives in exchange for promises to lay down their arms.

One of 23 al Qaeda operatives who escaped from a jail in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa in February 2006, Badawi was accompanied by some infamous terrorists.

So he “surrenders” to an authority that frequently paroles terrorists on their promise to “eschew” violence? Now there is a deal.

I guess our 17 dead crewmen can rest easy tonight, knowing this clown "eschews violence." Two things we desperately need: an "Official Secrets" act, and a (real, not movie-version) "double-0 Section". The 00's first assignment should be Mr. Badawi (before he gets out of house arrest next week).

Ah So.....

Memories strong five years after Cole blast

*************************EXCERPT**************************

ARLINGTON, Va. — Command Master Chief James Parlier was forced to decide to let a sailor die.

It was Oct. 12, 2000, he said, aboard the USS Cole. Terrorists had just blown a gaping hole in the ship using a suicide boat. Seventeen sailors died in the attack.

I think someone needs eschew stuck right up their ass.

Thanks E.

The Muslims like to do this kind of stuff. Has to do with their honor, and all that kind of thing.

Only it doesn’t apply to infidels - namely us Christians and Westerners - so we can go after this low life Al-Qaeda puke. Hope he leaves Yemen soon.

So now we need to see how long he remains in “custody” - and whether he is, or is not, more comfortable in “custody”.

Doesn’t mean he’s in jail, nor that he will ever be imprisoned.

The most important question in my mind is this:

Were the hijackers of the airline up the coast in Jeddah accomplices who were fleeing after the bombing of the USS Cole?

October 14 2000 Two Saudi Arabian Al Qaeda operatives hijack a Saudi Airlines Boeing 777 bound from Jeddah to London and fly it to Baghdad. They are given asylum by SADDAM HUSSEIN’s government.

On 12 October 2000, while under the command of Commander Kirk Lippold, the Cole was attacked from a small boat by Al-Qaida[citation needed] suicide bombers, while she was harbored in the Yemeni port of Aden. Seventeen sailors were killed and 39 were injured. The U.S. government offered a reward of up to US $5 million for information leading to the arrest or conviction of those persons who committed or aided in the attack on Cole. On 4 November 2002, Ali Qaed Sinan al-Harthi, who is believed to have planned the attack, was killed by the CIA using an AGM-114 Hellfire missile launched from an MQ-1 Predator unmanned drone.

Parlier also said:

What did demoralize the crew was Yemenis celebrating the attack in view of Cole crewmembers for a couple of nights following the attack, Parlier said. They felt the Cole was their trophy, he said.

“Boy, that sticks [with me], seeing all these guys in white outfits jumping up and down, partying music blaring,” he said.

Which speaks volumes about who exactly the enemy really is...
