If ‘victory’ is, in the final analysis’ “the sapping of the enemy’s will to fight”, then we’re already losing this war - not from horrendous losses, but from sheer boredom.

Well your assumptions are wrong. It isn’t just a matter of sapping the will. It also a matter of sapping the ability to fight. We are closer today then were were 6 months ago to achieving that goal 6 months from now will be closer still
