Fred Thompson Grabs Top Presidential Site Traffic Seat
ClickZ.com ^ | Oct 12, 2007 | Kate Kaye

Former Senator Fred Thompson topped the presidential campaign site traffic charts in September, surpassing all other presidential candidate sites. The TV star pushed Congressman Ron Paul out of the number one position held by his site among Republican candidates since May, while longtime site traffic leader Barack Obama maintained his top ranking among Democratic presidential hopefuls.

Notably, according to exclusive information provided to ClickZ News by Hitwise, while Yahoo and Google drove about a third of the traffic to the top Republican and Democratic candidate sites, some site traffic to RonPaul2008.com actually arrived from the site of his opponent, Mitt Romney...

For Republican candidate sites, Hitwise showed official campaign sites promoting John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Duncan Hunter and Sam Brownback all dropped in share, while maintaining the four lowest rankings also held in August. McCain's site traffic fell the most of the four, from 12.5 percent in August to below 7 percent last month.

Paul's site lost 16 points, falling from over 42 percent share of traffic to Republican candidate sites in August to about 26 percent in September. Traffic to the official site for Mitt Romney dropped by more than half to around 8 percent share among Republicans, moving from second to fourth place in September.

September marks the first month Hitwise has tracked traffic to the campaign site of Thompson, a relatively late entry to the presidential race.

As for sites driving traffic to the top presidential candidates' Web homes, Google's main search site dominated, pushing over 20 percent of site traffic to Fred08.com and BarackObama.com. Yahoo properties drove about 11 percent of Web traffic to Thompson's site and about 8 percent to Obama's...

Meanwhile, the Romney site actually drove 2 percent of traffic to rival Thompson's site, Fred08.com.

Yep. No fire, must be sick, not charismatic, lazy, blah, blah, blah, all the usual hors***t.

This is from yesterday...

Rasmussen Reports , Thursday, October 11, 2007

During Fred Thompson’s first month as a formal candidate for the Republican Presidential Nomination, Republican voters continue to see him as the most conservative candidate in the field. Fifty-one percent (51%) of Republican voters now see the former Tennessee Senator as politically conservative. That’s up from 48% a month ago.

Perceptions of Mitt Romney have moved in the opposite direction. Thirty-six percent (36%) now see him as politically conservative. That’s down from 42% a month ago and little changed from two months ago.

Just 30% of Republican voters see John McCain as politically conservative, down from 33% a month ago. Twenty-six percent (26%) hold that view of Giuliani, little changed over the past month.

Then why is he still 11% behind Giuliani among likely Primary voters?

This is encouraging, but I wonder how it all fits with the Rasmussen poll numbers which are not encouraging. Note McCain, Guiliani, Hunter, Brownback who already had the lowest numbers continued to drop. Guiliani on the low side of these numbers yet his poll numbers are the highest. This doesn’t fit.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Sean Hackbarth joined Team Fred as one of the e-campaigners and main blogger about the beginning of the month.

"Paul’s site lost 16 points"

That's 'cause all the DU'ers and Daily Kussers were too busy drooling over the Nobel Peace Prize going to their hero to do their usual spamming of the polls/sites.

I think at most this is an expression of interest, about wanting to learn about the candidate, not about support. The Ron Paul difference may be attributed to his constituency having to go back to school.

After taking a poll on Rasmussen’s site, I have a suspicion. They still had Tommy Thompson (and Gingrich) listed, but FDT was not on the list of candidates to vote for.
