Mexico's Fox openly calls for North American Union

WASHINGTON – Mexico's former President Vicente Fox is making no secret of his desire to promote a "North American Union" to compete economically with Europe and the Far East.

In a promotional tour for his new book, "Revolution of Hope," Fox told NPR's "Talk of the Nation" audience: "That's part of my Americas dream, that we can build our future together. We are partners with United States and Canada through NAFTA. There are other blocs in Latin America, but at the very end a continental trade agreement and union on the long term would be a way to develop ourselves and to be able to have the standards and level of living that we all need."

Fox shocked many in the U.S. earlier in the week when he told CNN's Larry King that he and President Bush had agreed to work toward a common currency not only for North America but for Latin America as well.

It was possibly the first time a top official of Mexico, Canada or the U.S. openly confirmed a plan for a regional currency. Fox explained the current regional trade agreement that encompasses the Western Hemisphere is intended to evolve into other previously hidden aspects of integration.

According to a transcript published by CNN, King, near the end of the broadcast, asked Fox a question e-mailed from a listener.

"Mr. Fox, I would like to know how you feel about the possibility of having a Latin America united with one currency?"

Fox answered in the affirmative, indicating it was a long-term plan. He admitted he and President Bush had agreed to pursue the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas – a free-trade zone extending throughout the Western Hemisphere, suggesting part of the plan was to institute eventually a regional currency.

How can this be? I thought the NAU was a figment of everyone's imagination as some people on FR have stated?

Have these people been living in a cave?

If it ever comes to this,(and I hope it doesn't) It will still be the greatest country on the face of the earth!

Hell Yeah!! And I’d like to go into the most expensive neighborhood in town and find the biggest freaking house I can find and just move in and declare that ‘we are all in this together’!!!! I’m sure nobody will mind sharing with me. Since I’m willing to contribute my big screen TV and a bunch of clothes which fit only me, my contribution to the mansion will certainly be considered worthy. And I’ll even buy food some of the time!

Is that anything other than what Vicente Fox is suggesting? That all of Mexico just find a nice neighborhood to the north and simply ‘move in’? Offer to take the free health care, freeways, retail infrastructure, parks, community centers and national parks and in exchange they will bring.........more people.

You're missing the obvious point there will be no USA if the NAU comes into existence! They are mutually exclusive.

Well I wouldnt go that far, but certainly it would be a larger, more populous country with even more political, military and economic clout.

AND it wouldnt have anything like the immigration problems you have now...

Not neccesarily. What is in a name? If the USA was to admit the dozen or so Canadian states and the however many states there are in Mexico, youd just have a substantially larger number of States in America.

Uniting all the Americas may not be as bad as we think. Especially with all the nut jobs running some of the South American countries. A new currency may also be a big headache for the drug cartels. Its more of a dream than a reality. Most countries love their sovereignty.

Amazing, most of the posters so far are saying how good the NAU would be. Or maybe not so bad, what the hell is wrong with you people? A few months ago people were coming on this board to call others who posted the idea that there would be an NAU, tin foilers.

Now all of a sudden it's, well it would not be so bad if that happened. It really disgusts me to hear Americans even remotely agreeing to this insanity. Luckly for us real Americans the 2nd amendment is alive and well.

Well now at least the lipstick is off the pig. Looks like this really is what the President was doing after all. This is how it starts, people being called tin foilers, and eventually the traitors coming in and saying how it wouldn't be so bad after all.

I now honestly believe that this was the plan all along, real Americans need to fight this crap tooth and nail.

Yes it is. Our founders thought so, which is why we already have a north american union.

Unfortunately it is controlled by a heavy-handed federal government that will not let its member states leave.

Creating a union at the federal level with Mexico and Canada will only subguate the states further.

Elitists (and big business), decided that if capitalism could be spread throughout the hemisphere, the US wouldn’t have to wall itself off from the have-not countries to the south. (Communism and wars being the inevitable outcome of poverty, crime, illiteracy, etc..) Little did they know that those third world countries would simply send their lower classes north with the proviso that they send money home. No impetus to kick start their own economies and clean up corruption.

The rich simply got richer on the backs of the poor, and we still have to build that wall, but with approximately 40 million illegals already here. Something about best laid plans going awry, ethnic cleansing, and more Americans killed by illegal aliens in one year than in the entire Iraq war....Oh, and don’t tell US citizens what you’re really up to. Lie like a rug.

That is why FR has taken a dive in the last few months. Few are left except for the GOP/Big government cheerleaders.

If this is true, Bush is a traitor and his loyalties are not with his country. I guess that is why Republicans like Lindsey Graham say America is not a country but an idea.

I suppose many of Bush's actions recently are designed to disgust the Republican base enough they stay home or form a 3rd party so Clinton can continue the dismantling of the USA.

Bush faked us out big time.
