Komen, Plaxo and Cancer … oh my
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the hot item right now is Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Before I go any further let me make it clear that being pro-life and a Christian, I have concern for anyone that has cancer. Each morning in our office we pray for many of our supporters who have illnesses and various cancers, even breast cancer. We should be doing all that we can to take care of the sick and needy and for finding cures for cancer. But we should be finding cures, not funding for the advancement of the diseases. This is what I believe Susan G. Komen for the Cure to be doing.
Recently a new study came out whose author came to this conclusion: abortion is the "best predictor of breast cancer." For instance, in countries with high abortion rates (England and Wales) we can expect high breast cancer rates while in countries with low abortion rates (Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic) a smaller increase is expected.
What does this have to do with Susan G. Komen for the Cure? Everything! Between 2000 and 2005 Komen awarded 72 grants to affiliates of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. In the year 2003 alone the grants totaled $475,000. If there is a link between abortion and breast cancer, as the study above suggests, then Komen isn’t racing for a cure – it is racing to fund the spread of breast cancer.
To add fuel to the fire Komen has come out endorsing human embryonic stem cell research. In a Fall 2006 newsletter the organization said, “embryonic stem cells have the most potential for cancer stem cell research.” That is not true. Beside that, taking stem cells from human embryonic persons KILLS THEM.
Last Wednesday I received an e-mail from Plaxo (online address book service) that is raising awareness of breast cancer by urging its users to use its eCard service. Plaxo is donating 100 percent of the proceeds from the new eCard subscriber fee to Susan G Komen for the Cure. I have sent Plaxo a letter pointing out the link between Komen, Planned Parenthood and abortion (click here to read). In it I also note that I will discontinue using Plaxo until they stop donating to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

This article speculates that it's due to "lifestyle" choices like not having children or having them late in life as well as family history of breast cancer.
I even hypothesised on occasion about a possible link between breast cancer rates of vegetarianism and soy consumption (since Marin is so darned liberal).
The one "lifestyle choice" which is never brought up in any of the analysis of Marin County's breast cancer rates are the percentages of women who have had at least one abortion. Marin County is probably the bluest county in California so I'd guess the abortion rate is higher than the national average.
Just proves if you get enough idiots on board they can ruin a good thing. I would think that those who contributed to Komen for the Cure thought the money would go towards a cure. Why is the money being squandered on Planned Parenthood? Nearly a half-million dollars. I suppose the thinking is the less women who are born the less breast cancer.......idiots.
We need to find another option if only for those at FR.
I totally agree! Besides, mammograms cause as many problems as they solve. I’ll never have another one.
Ugh. My stomach is churning over this link to Planned Parenthood. SGK is everywhere with product tie-ins.

I hate this bait and switch, bs. Why is not all of the money going into breast cancer research? When we give we believe that is where the money goes. I always have them add the extra dollar on my grocery bill. I won’t anymore, because now I’ve been lied to.
It’s dishonest at best and it seems it should be illegal. It makes one feel foolish after contributing to them discover if didn’t go to really rid the world of this horrible disease.
We always try to buy the pink stuff, because of my sister and the profit goes to research I thought. This kind of nonsense is what causes people to become jaded and not give at all. They feel as if they are throwing it away on administration salaries and idiocy like this. I did find a foundation called BCRF (Breast Cancer Research Foundation) and they claim 85% goes to research. I could not find anything objectionable about them. So, as I can, I will give to them because I definitely want to help but do not like being deceived.
I hope you change your mind about that, Shery. I am not going to chide ya’ or scold ya’, but I do know the difference early detection can make. Just concerned about ya’ is all. :)
I also bought all of the products with the pink on them and like I said when you check out they always ask if you would like to add a dollar to your grocery tab. I stop at the store just about every day. After a month it adds up. I won’t give anymore but I will look into the BCRF.
