In a surprising move Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family announced in an op-ed in the New York Times that he and some 50 colleagues met and discussed what position they would take in the upcoming Presidential race.
According to a report on Fox news October 9, 2007 Dobson said “If neither of the two major political parties nominates an individual who pledges himself or herself to the sanctity of human life, we will join others in voting for a minor party candidate. Those agreeing with the proposition were invited to stand, and the result was almost unanimous.”

If Dr. Dobson were allowed to use the full weight of his organization a grass roots movement might be able to significantly raise the chances of a republican party candidate who fits the bill: Duncan Hunter.
Dobson’s biggest problem is that the next prez may appoint 2-3 new justices and if it’s Hillary, the pubbies will probably allow her to appoint anyone she wishes. We jsut aren’t as tough as the dems when it comes to fighting off whacked out appointments.

I love these single-issue conservatives who threaten to bolt to a third party or stay home. If they listen to Dobson, we’ll get another Clinton presidency — as if two terms weren’t damaging enough.
Take a look at the percentage Perot won in ‘92 and then look at the margin that Clinton had in his plurality victory over Bush’s father. Will history repeat itself?
Let me be more explicit: A vote for a third party — or abastaining to vote — is a tacit vote for Hillary. Period.

Hunter introduced H.R. 552, The Right to Life Act, on February 2, 2005. The purpose of the bill is to “implement equal protection ... for the right to life of each born and preborn human person.” In the 109th Congress, the legislation collected 101 cosponsors.[5] Hunter states that The Right to Life Act “would legally define “personhood” as the moment of conception and, therefore, guarantee all constitutional rights and protections, including life, to the unborn without utilizing a constitutional amendment.”[6] Hearings for H.R. 552 were scheduled for December 12, 2006, but were cancelled right before the House adjourned.[7]
I don’t understand Hannity, he complains about our politicians not being true conservatives yet he glosses over Hunter.
First of all, it's America's problem, not Dobson's.
And if Hillary serves two terms, she will appoint not two or three, but six or seven new justices.
Think about it.

If Dobson was not happy with the choices, then he should have put his third party candidate up as a GOP candidate months ago.
What twaddle.
First, Mr. Dobson certainly realizes that the Democrats will never nominate such a person, and everybody knows that. So in reality he's issuing a threat to the Republicans, but wanting to hide the fact by a bit of hand-waving.
Second, from whom is Dobson hiding the fact that he's really just threatening the Republicans? Answer: he wants to obscure it from his "evangelical base," who are unlikely to abandon Republicans in the face of a Hillary Clinton candidacy.
Third, why does he need to hide it from them? Good question: perhaps he's still feeling the sting from the thrashing he got a couple of weeks back. Perhaps he's going with the old tactic where it's better to be thought to have influence, than to really try to exert it and discover that you don't.
I guess I'm getting pretty cynical about some of these "conservative leaders" we haven't actually chosen for ourselves....
Dobson and his likes make a lot of noise...but it falls on deaf ears except the fools who think in terms of single issues..and hopefully there is not enough of them to make a difference....except in their eyes!!

I don’t want to think about Hillary or any dem appointing justices. Dobson could bring this about with a 3rd party effort, especially if ‘08 is a close race.
The GOP can’t withstand another “Ross Perot” type third party because if they can win it’s not going to be by any landslide. I honestly hope the Republicans can find common ground in a candidate who can win the popular vote while pleasing the conservatives in the party !!!
If I read the article correctly, the tax-exempt status of Focus on the Family does not allow Dobson to do that.

So a girl or woman who was raped and impregnated has to carry to full term by law or face murder charges. No thanks. I could not ask that of any woman I cared about. That is exactly why the federal government has no business dealing with this issue.
