I just had a technician order the one for students/teachers but haven’t had it installed yet and wonder, now, if it’s going to be worth the hassle. Any thoughts?

Most likely there will be no problems. Even this vulnerability is small potatoes on a Mac. Just make sure you are running in standard mode and not administrator and it really can't hurt the system files. Back up your home folder though.

I'm one of the Luddites also... running Office for Mac OSX... never updated to Office 2004... and I see no advantage to upgrading to Office 2008
