Pigs get sick just like people, you know. And with a very similar range of maladies, exhibiting a similar set of symptoms. In fact, physiologically, the swine is probably most nearly similar to human beings, of all the animals commonly domesticated for agricultural use. Swine are very nearly as closely similar genetically to human beings as chimpanzees, and it might not be a stretch to envision humans as being the result of gene recombination between pigs and an ape-like creature.

Done by some extraterrestrial experimenters, or course.
