Obama Stops Wearing Flag Pin |
Oct 4 03:06 PM US/Eastern |
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP)-
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said he doesn't wear the American flag lapel pin because it has become a substitute for "true patriotism" since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Asked about the decision Wednesday in an interview with KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Illinois senator said he stopped doing so shortly after the attacks and instead hoped to show his patriotism by explaining his ideas to citizens.
"The truth is that right after 9-11 I had a pin," Obama said. "Shortly after 9-11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security.
"I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest," he said in the interview. "Instead, I'm going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testament to my patriotism."
Obama was campaigning in Iowa Thursday, the second day of a four-day trip to the early voting state.

That’s right, Osama Obama, don’t want to let your islamic brotherhood to know.
Someone needs to tell Hussein Obama that this ALREADY IS a great country!
lol
The WWJD bracelets weren’t really symbolic, though, were they? What did they symbolize? They were perhaps simple reminders, but a symbol is more powerful than that.
I’m actually quite the fan of symbolism, particularly that used by the Catholic Church. It requires the viewer reflect upon a subject, personalize it, deal with it, revitalize it. It’s something I think we Protestants miss out on at times.
Wrong...it's a terrible answer and it perfectly displays the difference between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives think this IS a great country...was well founded and is worth fighting for. Liberals think they need to fight to make this country great...with socialized medicine, entitlement programs, overtaxed upper class, open borders, public school indoctrination centers and the implementation of a radical anti-christian social agenda.
Anytime a dim says that where I am I will say, “Said like a true traitor and an anti-American POS”!

100% right on target.

“Presidio” as in Tucson, not SF, but I’m back in NYC these days.
What was it about my post (not to you) that compelled you to respond to it?
He doesn't wear a lapel flag pin.
So what? Neither do I. (But I do have one on my office nameplate at work)
In my opinion, this is such a non-issue.
There is a certain degree of intellectual honesty at work here.
But so far as I know, there is no pin for the Worldwide Caliphate. I am not even sure if there is a flag representing the Caliphate. But if there is, it should be widely publicized, and appropriate lapel jewelry should be designed especially for Barack (Saddam) Hussein (Osama) Obama, a crypto-Muslim raised as a citizen of the world.
Anyway, he says everyone is out to get what you have, but RUN from the guy in the big white hat who tells you he is the most honest man in the world and you can trust him as opposed to everyone else - that is the one who will really screw you.
Obama actually does fit that mold, because he is proclaiming himself a "true patriot" in fact such a true patriot he doesn't need to wear a flag, support the war, etc - IOW it's a cover for his being a weak patriot, at best.
what’s up with these a**holes that want to run our country-are they ashamed of the flag?politicians don’t own the flag-we do-it is not a political statement-it is one of appreciation of our nation-i always flew the flag in front of my house-after 9/11 all my neighbors did-now there are just three of us who do-so now it’s easy to give directions-just look for the flag
Of course they are ashamed of the flag. The flag represents values they do not hold. The flag to a Dem is like a cross to a vampire. I fly my flag everyday as well. Thankfully I’m not the only one.
Just like Kramer getting assaulted for not wearing the AIDS ribbon while he was marching in the parade?
