Congressman Rudy Giuliani: Pro-Life? (LOL!)
CBN ^ | 10/2/2007 | David Brody

Posted on 10/01/2007 11:57:11 PM PDT by Ol' Sparky

Congressman Pete Sessions, a staunch pro-life Republican from Texas and a Rudy Giuliani supporter tells The Brody File that if Giuliani was a member of Congress today, he’d be considered pro-life. Here’s the money quote:

“In a hypothetical comparison of congressional votes, Mayor Giuliani’s voting record would mirror the voting record of Fred Thompson, including votes on partial birth abortion, taxpayer funding on abortions, and parental notification laws. Mayor Giuliani respects the values of social conservatism, and his position on these issues would categorize him as a predominately pro-life Member of Congress.”

Ok, for those in the anti-Giuliani crowd, you can get up off the floor. I have smelling salts. So what is Congressman Sessions referring too? He’s not talking about Giuliani in the 1990’s; he’s talking about Rudy now.

For example, Sessions tells me just look at Giuliani’s positions. When the Supreme Court handed down its decision upholding the Partial Birth Abortion ban in April, Giuliani said, “The Supreme Court reached the correct conclusion in upholding the congressional ban on partial birth abortion. I agree with it.”

On taxpayer funding for abortion, Giuliani has publicly said he supports the Hyde amendment which forbids federal funding of abortions. The Giuliani quote is: “As I have indicated before, I will not seek to change current law as described in the Hyde Amendment."

On Parental Notification Laws, Giuliani says on his website that he “supports reasonable restrictions on abortion such as parental notification with a judicial bypass.”

(Sessions doesn't mention embryonic stem cell research. Giuliani would probably lose points on that one.)

But throw in Giuliani’s talk about nominating strict constructionist judges to the Supreme Court and the pro-life Sessions (Pete not Jeff) comes to the conclusion that Giuliani is his guy. Of course, for Sessions all of this ultimately comes down to Giuliani’s ability to lead (read: 9/11) and the fact that he believes Giuliani is the only candidate out there that can beat Hillary Clinton. In fact, he has a warning to social conservative leaders thinking of bolting for a third party. He tells me: “Mrs. Clinton will not be their friend and not see it the way they would. Rudy Giuliani respects life.”

Will these positions on abortion, 9/11 and cleaning up New York City carry the day for Giuliani?

This load of manure reminds me of when Billy Graham suggested Bill Clinton consider becoming a minister after his term in office was done.

Sessions must think would-be Republican voters have the intelligence of grapefruits if he thinks he can pass Giuliani off as a pro-life.

Then again, I could see Sean Hannity believing this.

All this poppycock that Rudy is the only GOP candidate that can beat Hillary. I believe all the GOP candidates would beat Hillary because of who she is. Just think Ferraro.

Former Senator Fred Thompson is the only major candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don’t change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.

I know many, many Republicans that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as Conservatives, and never will. He is NOT Pro-Life!!

Mitt Romney is a RINO (though a very nice man) that simply has everything else and nothing to do. “I guess I’ll just try to buy the presidency”. Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our Country. Nice picture huh?

However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if that’s even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this Country and strength back to our party. A little of the good old days of faith and family would do well for this Country. If a Conservative runs as a Conservative, he will win!

Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a party, as a Country, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is? It is not impossible to take back the House and the Senate. We are winning in Iraq—they know it. The best they can do now is stop our progress and choose defeat, just like they did during Vietnam. We lost because Congress chose defeat. History repeats itself when not learned from.

Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our Country right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this party and nation back together! Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart as a party. Liberal is liberal every day of the week.

Really tick off the leftist democrats & RINOs and contribute to Fred Thompson: https://www.fred08.com/contribute.aspx?RefererID=c637caaa-315c-4b4c-9967-08d864cd0791

My take on this is that the Rudy camp is worried about Thompson’s campaign.

They compare “nu” rudy with “old” Thompson’s actual congressional record.

They are running around saying he’s a Reagan Republican.

Claiming he was a part of the ‘94 Revolution.

The rudy camp lately seems to be responding to whatever themes Thompson is hitting.

They even have Rudy praying Jesus. A fact i don’t see a lot of liberals and Christian bashers decrying. Maybe because he’s insincere?

Too many of our fellows on the right side of the aisle fell for the “head fake” of the early campaign start and went in the tank for the early favorite. Now they are twisting themselves into human pretzels to justify their impetuousness.

Think that's less about Rudy trying to persuade evangelicals that he's their choice for Prez than it is a way to exploit the Mormon issue by reminding primary voters of Romney's religious views. When you look at the major candidates (those polling 10% plus), Romney's the one who has staked out the ground as being the candidate for Christians...whether or not one believes Mormonism is a Christian sect. Given the hits that Thompson has been taking by Dobson lately, looks like Romney's got some support from so-called Christian leaders.

If Rudy makes religion an issue, he doesn't have to win Christian votes in the primaries...he just has to get them to stay home stay instead of coming out for Romney.

Fair? No. But that's politics.

Here are the facts. When it is time to vote it is going to look like this: Hillary or Obama vs Thompson or Guiliani.

I know that there is not a candidate that believes EVERYTHING that I do .. and there probably never will be. I am not about to base such an important vote on ONE ISSUE .. abortion.

When the time comes I am going to worry about many things, including who is going to raise taxes, who is going to socialize healthcare, who is going to implement massive new entitlements, and who is going to keep America safe from terrorism.

IMO, all the labeling and name calling because a candidate disagrees with me on something, comes across as childish .. and NO .. I haven't decided who I am going to support yet.

‘Ol Pete ought Google “Abortion Capitol of America”.

Under Rudy, NYC obtained that title. Sessions is grossly stupid.

Pro life schmo life..who cares?, this is not an important issue in presidential politics. Rudy has already stated he will appoint constructionists to the USSC so relax. Remember we had 12 continuous years of pro life administrations {1980-92} and did abortion on demand go away? NO!, we had a pro life president , and pro life {GOP} congress...but we still have abortions do we not?

We need to concentrate on the real Issues like the WOT, and Rudy is one of the few candidates that will take this legitimate issue to heart.

Giuliani: “My position on abortion is strong and unequivocal. Abortion is morally...oh wait a moment, I’m getting a cell phone call from my wife...I have to take this...excuse me....”

All this poppycock that Rudy is the only GOP candidate that can beat Hillary

EXACTLY! As if that were actually true, and as if that were a reason to vote FOR somebody.

Giuliani was on TV a lot on 9/11. PERIOD. If you think that's a great reason to vote for him for president, you're entitled.

You're also entitled to write in Pat Paulsen for President. Even if he is dead.

“We need to concentrate on the real Issues like the WOT, and Rudy is one of the few candidates that will take this legitimate issue to heart.”

And I can’t think of a real pro-life candidate who would not also be firm in the war on terror. I want someone strong on both, and will not vote for liberal Rudy to get one of the two. That’s simple to understand.

If Rudy has been around this long and is working this hard to convince us that he is pro-life, then he isn’t. I hear the talk about Rudy being big in the war on terror, but what has he said or done that Fred Thompson or any other pro-lifer has not said or done? It just seems to me that some simply want the GOP to be pr-abortion.
