A few months ago up here in the Pacific Northwest, a sporting goods chain that had been named "G.I. Joe's" for DECADES, dropped the "G.I.". It is now merely named "Joe's".
They printed a full-page ad in The Oregonian (fishwrap) denying that it was an anti-military move. BULL****!
