It is a sad commentary on our public education system that has not only failed to teach the basics, but has produced "citizens" who cannot think logically and are vulnerable to persuasion by demagogues--with and without keyboards.

I pinged VR-21 without explanation of the quoted material because I anticipated his reaction from a long exchange of posts that we enjoyed on this thread:

Al-Qaeda planning fresh attacks on US: CIA chief

Essentially, it is clear to me that the author has it all wrong when he blames modern technology for the lack of discernment among our youth. The fault is not with a gadget but with The Frankfurt School which has let loose among us a virus called "political correctness," or "the critical theory," and is also known as "cultural Marxism" and the cumulative effect of which is to steal from these kids any absolute truth and to sink them into the swamps of relativism. They have been robbed of their ability to think. They don't know what is real. So their epistemology swims around in the ethernet.

No wonder they are so cynical that they will believe the most absurd conspiracy theory. The Frankfurt School has taken everything away from them, especially a belief in God, and, as they say, a man who believes in nothing will believe in anything.

I know you are personally familiar with The Frankfurt School from our other posts but I encourage anyone reading this thread to have a look at this essay who is curious about how a small group of intellectuals stole the birthright of so many Americans:
