Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.
Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.
Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...
This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.
It looks like the person who did this walked along The Wall with some type of container, perhaps hidden at their side so that they could squirt the oily substance without being caught in the act.
The names along the lower part of The Wall appear to have taken the brunt of the damage.
Because of the reflective nature of The Wall, Mrs. Trooprally had a tough time capturing the extent of the damage. Mr. Trooprally said that the oily substance has discolored the shiny stone, but that it has been absorbed into the more porous area where the names are etched into The Wall.
...me being one of them.
What I cannot comprehend is that so few have learned from the 30 years since.
I can ascribe it to fear in the sixties, arrogance and momentum in the seventies...but today?

For a long time I believed that triumphant flower children simply could not admit they'd been wrong.
Now I wonder if the Iron Curtain didn't come down a bit to easily for people to remember that a real conflict had existed.
I wonder if people don't simply believe that everything will work out OK if we only stretch it out a bit longer without really doing anything.
The blame goes right back to the American voter. Without the support[vote]from the American voter, the socialists would not be in office o begin with.
Amd yes it is going to get worse. Much wores. And yes the Government protects individuals[I hesitate to use the term “people” or “human beings” to describe them] such as the ones who did this deed.
Jihad Sheehan’s people would be my guess, or possibly Pelosi, Reid ...
And some comments I saw about a lawn mower may have had a leak and sprayed the WALL. Highly unlikely. The pattern at the bottom would have been more elongated due to the force of being ejected, not rounded as if sprayed from above.

Yes, I saw this after I got off the phone with you.
The scum who did this will probably be caught. They can seldom refrain from bragging about it to their nutroot buddies.
So if it was dripping, it would only be on the top.
If if was spraying out from an edger, the height of the wall would have meant the oil would have made an arc projection further out from the very bottom of the WALL.
As spots vs a stream, there is a line pattern, but if squeezed lightly from a bottle and sprayed some distabce from the perp, it would end up more like droplets. The stream does seems to go up and down the WALL face from the bottom.

Ahhh... we hear from the real investigative expert now.
Thanks for the ping, bob. All of your investigative speculation would work, if only there was some grass down along the base of the wall to edge.
But there is no grass there, and the sidewalk is approximately 8-10 feet wide; so nix that speculative pronouncement.
As to a leaky edger dripping down from the grass above the wall... for that to happen, the edger would have to be hanging approximately 12-18" over the granite edge of the wall. Again, not too likely of an explanation.
There are plans for a vet or a Freeper (or both) to do some follow-up on this today.

The Park Service said it happened Friday NIGHT. That’s a little late to be weedwacking. If the oil dripped from above, I’d expect there to be drops higher on the Wall somewhere.
Find them (the vandals)... f*** them up... feed them to sharks.

Re cameras at the Wall:
I think the perp considered the possibility of cameras and so sprayed the oil at wrist/thigh level as he walked past. Nothing would be noticed by a surveillance camera until later when the oil had soaked in and discolored the concrete.

The PS employee said that they knew it was vandalized, that it was vandalized on Friday, but that they did not know who did it.
When asked by Mrs. Trooprally if the media had been informed, the PS employee said that they couldn't tell the media.
Mrs. T asked why. The PS employee said that they couldn't tell the media because they did not know who did it.
To which Mrs. T. basically replied, "BS." (para)
More info will follow later today, I hope, as vets and/or Freepers ask more questions of the Park Service.
