SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 2001
The following is a statement from James J. Brosnahan, attorney for John Walker Lindh:
"There has been increasing discussion about what should happen to John in recent days. We still do not know what the facts are. All we've heard is speculation and rumor. No one from the outside, other than the Red Cross, has seen John. Whatever the accusation, John has Constitutional rights. Getting to the facts, allowing an accused person to talk with his attorney, ensuring that our system operates fairly regardless of the allegation -- that is what the Constitution was designed to protect.
"John's parents have received no communications from John other than a short note they received December 11, which was dictated to the International Red Cross and signed by John on December 3. They have had no confirmation that their letter to John was ever delivered to him. In that letter, John's parents told him that they have retained a lawyer for him. The only response John's parents or I have received to our repeated requests for information about John and to see John is a short letter from a lawyer at the Department of Defense, sent to me on December 14. All of the information in the letter had already been reported by various news outlets earlier that same day. That letter stated in its entirety:
"`This responds to your recent letters to the Secretary of Defense and to the General Counsel of the Department of Defense. I can inform you that John Walker is currently in the control of United States armed forces and is being held aboard USS PELELIU in the theater of operations. Our forces have provided him with appropriate medical attention and will continue to treat him humanely, consistent with the Geneva Convention protections for prisoners of war.'
"John has a right to counsel. He has now been held in custody and reportedly subject to ongoing interrogations by various government agents for 16 days without any access to an attorney and without the ability to communicate with his family. We continue to seek the government's help in giving John's parents access to their son."

It is breaking in Japan (internet, Yahoo Japan, etc) that Hilary Clinton is in trouble on this one.
Excellent research!!!!
This deserves to be in the ‘breaking news’ sidebar, if you ask me. I added it there - the mod’s may always move it, of course.
Slime oozes all around the Clintons. And the Taliban. Sheister buttwipe.

I am liking that this story keeps growing tentacles.
One of the other attornies for this law firm sent Cease and Desist letters on behalf of Major League Baseball Properties threatening to sue fan sites of major league teams like the Astros, Yankees and Mets for displaying the logos of their teams (i.e. jpgs of players wearing team caps and uniforms).
The chick lawyer that sent the letter demanding compliance (i.e. shut down the site) withing 7 days sent the letter off and promptly went off to France for a two-week vacation and was not available for discussion.
To their credit, owner Drayton McLane and VP Pam Gardner of the Astros got on the phone for the Astros’ site and told MLBP to knock it off so the site has stayed in operation. Others, like the Mets and Yankees sites, either shut down or had to make major changes to their websites.
We, at the website, cracked quite a few jokes at the “MOFO.COM” site address. It certainly seems to fit.
