Folks,

Sometimes, a column gets written because I punch a few buttons on the Internet to check what I think I know, and find much more information than I anticipated. This is one of those weeks. I knew that “la raza” does not mean “community,” it means “race.” The human race is, in Spanish, “la raza humana,” for instance.

So, that deliberate mistranslation by the National Council of La Raza sent me on the search which resulted in this column.

John

My problem is that the current administration seems to be intent on advancing all of “the race’s” demands. We are at a tipping-point right now and this next election may well decide, or seal, the fate of our nation and culture.

I lived in Southern California for many years (hell, I was born and raised there). I remember the “la raza” folks. A more bigoted and hateful group you’d be hard pressed to find.

the National Council of La Raza, claims to be just a self-help group. It says on its official website that the word “la raza” means “community.”

Let's do some language translations courtesy of altavista.com's bablefish translation service. That should prove that these fine folks are just misunderstood.

First let's try English to Spanish

community = comunidad the community = la comunidad

Now let's try Spanish to English

Raza = Race La Raza = The Race

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm bablefish must be broken!!! Okay lets try one more in spanish to English!

Si se puede = Hey you stupid gringos, we're going to swamp your population with illegal aliens, have babys here, and get amnestys until there are more of us than you. Then we'll vote our people into office and take over. Once we have the numbers, you will NEVER hold an elected office again. We will control all the power and collect and distribute taxes as we see fit.

Literally, "La Raza" absolutely translates to "The Race". However, almost every English-language website that mentions it says that it means "The People".

In a sense, it does. It means "The Hispanic People", or "The Mexican People", but those of us who are of European heritage are not in "La Raza".

The term apparently started from a famous book, "La Raza Cósmica", or "The Cosmic Race", written in 1925. The author envisioned a "Raza de Bronce" or "Bronze Race", being a mixed Latin American race of all ethnicity mixed together (but with Mexican culture and language, of course) who would go forth into the world and create a "universal era of humanity". But with tacos.

This needs to be in the WSJ. Would probably require a little tinkering but is too important not to get a much wider audience.

I would add something about the bill pending in Congress to give La Raza millions in tax dollars. I think it is 5 million the first year and 10 million thereafter.

IIRC, the sponsor is the Rep from Corpus Christi TX. Hinojosa, something like that.

Great article, John.

Foolish and greedy American politicians and special interests have been too long sowing the wind and we are all now beginning to reap the whirlwind.

It’s a shame the powers that be didn’t do their research on La Raza when welcoming them to KC for their convention.

Vigorous enforcement of immigration laws, combined with a few new laws that make the general climate less hospitable to illegal aliens would solve this in short order.

We’ve already seen the proof in certain areas where this has been done. Deport 5%; 80% will self-deport. You then have the ability to deal with the remaining 10%.

You of course are correct in your conclusions. I would take issue with this statement: “Not since 1066, when the Norman French conquered England, has a foreign population taken over the whole of an established nation and culture”

What about Kosovo? Now 10% Serbian, the rest albanian muslim and the US pushing for the Albanian illegal ‘migrants’ to have their own state.

What about the American Indian?

What about the Spanish conquest of Mexico?
