A forward operations base in the ME is something some people said was the goal in the first place.

Pre-2003 that was Saudi Arabia (Air forces) and Kuwait (ground forces), now we have 20 times the forces within a stones throw of Iran. We did not invade Germany directly in WWII. Not that I am suggesting we are about to attack Iran, but we have that option and they know it!

At the beginning of the war, establishing a Middle East “beachhead” in Iraq was one of the most talked-about goals. Just look at a map and Iraq’s strategic placement becomes abundantly obvious. But, since that aim doesn’t mesh with the Lib-MSM “Bush lied!” mantra, it’s been conveniently shoved down the memory hole.
