Double standard [It's OK for media to dump on Christians, but not Muslims]
Toronto Sun ^ | 2007-09-01 | Michael Coren

Posted on 09/01/2007 3:52:08 AM PDT by Clive

The past week witnessed two more suicide attempts from the Western world.

The first was when CNN ran three shows on religious fundamentalism, making the appallingly relativistic and fatuous argument that the Christian, Jewish and Islamic varieties were not only similar but equally hazardous.

At almost the same time The Washington Post and several other newspapers in North America refused to run an instalment of the highly popular Opus cartoon because they feared it might offend Muslims.

The strip showed the eccentric faddist character Lola Granola in a headscarf, telling her boyfriend that she wants to be a radical Islamist.

First CNN, and their hilarious attempt to make us feel better with the knowledge that all religions are the same and sanity will prevail if we manage to expunge faith from the world. The same Christian faith, one supposes, that forms the infrastructure of social welfare, community care and education in most of the Third World and large chunks of North America and Europe.

Christian and Jewish fundamentalism can indeed be annoying and if we speak out against the excesses of either we're likely to receive a severe letter and have people praying for us.

If we speak out against the Islamic variety we're more likely to have our heads cut off.

That, comrades at CNN, is a fairly important distinction.

ESCAPES THEM

What seemed to escape the breathless host of these silly shows was that it was only in a nation built on Judeo-Christian ideals, the United States, that religion could be criticized. Even, as in this case, unfairly criticized. If you doubt this, ask journalists in the Middle East how much freedom of expression they enjoy.

Within the Islamic world itself, the less Muslim the country the more free are its people. Which is why Turkey, Jordan and Indonesia are far more open and tolerant than Iran, Saudi Arabia or Sudan.

From a cartoon of a television program to a, well, cartoon. It's significant that the same newspapers that censored the cartoon strip that mentioned Islam had all carried Opus a week earlier when it made fun of Jerry Falwell. No surprises there.

The Washington Post justified its decision to be more sensitive to Muslims because, it said, the cartoon was shown to Islamic employees and they had become "emotional."

Well, that's OK then. Christians, of course, had no opportunity to be emotional or indifferent to the Falwell stuff as they were never shown it. Because, after all, they're just Christians.

Frankly, we shouldn't care how bloody emotional someone becomes about a cartoon.

It's a cartoon; it's supposed to provoke a reaction.

So it's just another example of liberals messing their pants.

Just as when The New York Times refused to print the now infamous and largely innocuous Mohammad cartoons because, it explained, they could describe them in words and had no need to show readers the actual drawings that had led to Muslim fanatics killing people across the world.

CRAPPY DECISION

The newspaper staff's literary abilities, however, apparently disappeared just a few days later when they ran a large picture of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Christ, covered in excrement. This was part of a local art exhibit and could not possibly be described in words.

Really? I smell something far worse than excrement. The stink of cowardice, hypocrisy and bigotry. An awful stink that fouls the air in newsrooms across this country as well. Suicide with a bad smell.

One only has to look at how the media have slightly altered their tune re: religion in the post-9/11 world to see something rather significant: They simply have no idea how to properly cover religion.

If they'd been on the ball and unafraid of criticizing radical religionists TODAY as opposed to hundreds or thousands of years ago, they would have been warning us about the potential for 9/11.

Now, they CAN'T do that because while they are so casual in berating others for cowardice of various kinds (political, moral) they are afraid of having their newspapers boycotted or their offices burned.

So, instead of their cheerful bashing of Christianity which they so gleefully did in the 80's onward (televangelists being the norm, if you believe them), they talk about "radicalism" of ALL sorts, a nice one-size-fits-all definition that allows them to pretend to be covering what's really important in the world while still allowing them to bash Judeo-Christian believers.

Most media types are so hamstrung by their hatred for Judaism and/or Christianity that they don't even know it, so they of course can't correct it. And it blinds them to the reality, which is that western civilization is under fire. But to admit this would mean they would be the targets of something worse than radical Islam--they would be vulnerable to snarky comments at their next wine-sipping gathering, where some dweeb fellow liberal would say "I'll bet George Bush was glad to see your column this morning."

They know who the REAL bad guy is today--not Al Qaeda, not Islam, but George Bush, his advisors, and the US fighting men and women.

The day is coming when these liberal anti-Christian morons will regret the day they were born. The vaccum left behind as Christianity rapidly declines is filled very quickly by Allah’s (Satans) army. It won’t be so far off in the future until we see the murder in our streets happening as often as it does in Islamic countries when Muslims are “offended”.

That's not exactly fair. You can go into any Muslim country in the world and criticize Christianity and Judaism with absolutely no fear at all.

Christians . . . were never shown it. Because, after all, they're just Christians.

Well, duh. Think risk vs. reward here. By bashing social Christianity, media elitists get to pat themselves for their courage to confront the big bad conservative mainstream, without any significant risk.

If they showed enough courage to confront Islam in the same way, Sarandon, or Baldwin, or Penn, or Mahr, or who knows what celebrity milquetoast, might have a snit (but be noticeably silent when the Jihadists arrive to behead the author).

For some of the media, principles are inconvenient things unless they are fluid enough to avoid any real danger.

The day will come when those who are very much anti-Christian libs are going to be screaming for help to those who have Christian faith and who are not afraid to stand up for freedom to come and bail out the former as the latter has to fight off those who worship the devil via a moon-rock.

Sums up the situation perfectly. People don’t remove ‘offensive’ cartoons because the poor Muslims might have their delicate sensibilities offended, and liberals hate offending people - they’re just yellow-bellied cowards.

People see this double standard everyday. The institutions promoting the Double-standardism are bleeding their credibility into the sand. It'll reach a point, where they'll simply be all dried up and will blow away.

We could start a pool: Which major newspaper will be the first to declare bankruptcy? Which of the major networks will be the first to drop their 'news' divisions? Which will be the next State to pass the Civil Rights Initiative? Which major politician will be the first to attack the double-standard?

The winds a'blowin' harder and harder. And it's not blowing to help the lefties.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you’re wrong about that. The Right definitely wins tactical battles here and there, but stategically the Left is trumping us in a big way and has been for the past 40+ years. The amazing thing is that the Left is almost always wrong. However, they have infiltrated our educational, media, and cultural institutions to such a degree that it almost doesn’t matter—up is down, wrong is right. So, even when they are wrong, they are rarely called on the carpet for it. But let the Right make one misstep, and all Hell will break loose.

About one third of us see the truth, but that is not enough. And the Left is working overtime to make sure that our culture is diluted by hordes from the Third World. And, unfortuntely, the “grow at any cost” Right is helping them out there.

The left is absolutely crazy

The things the muslims hate the most is what the left stands for

Homosexual marriages
Pornography
Drugs/including alcohol
Abortion

If the muslims get control the lefties will be first in line for the beheading and they are too damn stupid to see it

My cynical side believes that the cognoscenti of the Left are using the mahometans and their brainless leftist supporters as useful idiots to breakdown the West, and Americanism in particular.

Here is how the scenario will unfold, as I see it. I may be wrong, but this is what I think will happen.

When the mahometans and the brainless left succeed at destroying Americanism, the Leftist cognoscenti will bring order by killing as many of the useful idiots as possible, and outlawing the existence of any remaining.

Historically, the Left has always been the most efficient and ruthless of all killing machines. Much moreso than the barbaric, rock-worshipping savages. The Leftist cognoscenti, poised to assume power and institute a totalitarian state as soon as their useful idiots do their dirty work for them, ALWAYS betray and destroy their useful idiots. The Jacobins, Stalin, Hitler, Castro, ALL the totalitarian collectivists have done this throughout all history.

To restore order, the Leftist cognoscenti will outlaw religious freedom, as they always have in past. Any religious expression that differs from the vision of the totalitarian state will be punished.

The homosexuals, the mahometans, the ethnic pride whores, the welfare panderers, the race baiters, the hippie peaceniks, ALL are just useful idiots for their totalitarian masters, blissfully unaware of the fates that await them when they succeed in overthrowing Americanism.

“Double standard [It’s OK for media to dump on Christians, but not Muslims]”

Old tradition. It was begun by th emperors of Rome and continued by the Catholic emperors of Rome, the Popes.

Old tradition.

One only has to look at how the media have slightly altered their tune re: religion in the post-9/11 world to see something rather significant: They simply have no idea how to properly cover religion.

One of the reasons for this is that, as secular humanists, they are unable to have the thought: "Well, on the one hand, this religion gets it right about the Son of God while that religion is wrong." They don't even see how that is relevant.

So they treat it as an exercise in deconstructionist, relative Anthropology, which requires that all benefit of the doubt be given to brown-skinned, non-Western religions and that only skepticism be expressed about Christianity.

But when God is actually in the equation, Anthropology is irrelevant.
