Looking for a free AV. Anyone have any ideas. Considering AVG. I have MCafee on my laptop, getting ready to expire. Tired of paying for it.
My son uses a Russian AV, but can’t recall the name.
AVG is good stuff, though I recommend you also install AVG AntiSpyware too- It is the old Ewido Trojan tool. While the AVG AV is pretty good and runs all the time, the free AVGAS will run in the background for 30 days, then become on-demand only (unless you buy it). Use it on-demand thereafter every couple weeks or so to beef up your protection.

That will probably be "Kaspersky" which is the best there is.
Avast! or AVG. The most recent AV test I read had them both in the top 10, with the difference between them (in detection) being only 1/10th of one percent. I use Avast!.

I started using AVG (free home) about 3 years ago when McAfee and a couple of other name brands got to be glut-ware.
I have been completely happy with AVG.
I also use some spyware that I run periodically. I liked Ad-Aware (free home), but I don’t like their new version. The new free home version doesn’t allow me to set preferences, and they added a bunch of stuff to the program. I have been testing out Avorax and Spyware Terminator.
McAfee has a free AOL version. Special Security CEnter edition.
