BAGHDAD Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has ordered a six-month suspension of activities by his Mahdi Army militia in order to reorganize the force, and it will no longer attack U.S. and coalition troops, aides said Wednesday.
The aide, Sheik Hazim al-Araji, said on Iraqi state television that the goal was to "rehabilitate" the organization, which has reportedly broken into factions, some of which the U.S. maintains are trained and supplied by Iran.
"We declare the freezing of the Mahdi Army without exception in order to rehabilitate it in a way that will safeguard its ideological image within a maximum period of six months starting from the day this statement is issued," al-Araji said, reading from a statement by al-Sadr.
In Najaf, al-Sadr's spokesman said the order also means the Mahdi Army will no longer launch attacks against U.S. and other coalition forces.
"It also includes suspending the taking up of arms against occupiers as well as others," Ahmed al-Shaibani told reporters.
Asked if Mahdi militiamen would defend themselves against provocations, he replied: "We will deal with it when it happens."....

All right...that pretty much makes it official that he's behind attacks. Kill him.
Is this the equivalent of an ‘un-fatwah’?
they should not be allowed to tag ‘base’ and declare themselves safe...or be allowed to reorganizae and reload.
Exactly
bttt
Will they be vacationing in Iranian training camps?
Can I have fries with that?
GOOD news.
The Mahdi army is another victory for the surge.
GOOD WORK W !
GOOD WORK PETRAEUS !
“In other words, please stop shooting at us while we reload.”
Exactly. I hope we keep shooting until they can’t possibly regroup.
There was an article in the WSJ that several clerics high up, Shiite, Kurds, Sunnis all got together to work otgether last week. The wild part was that an anglican Priest had been working on this peace iniitative!
This is most certainly a result of back channel negotiations with the Iranians.
I was listening to WLS 890 AM Talk Radio in Chicago.
During the news break, the news guy comes on and beams:
“GOOD NEWS!! The Sadr militia has stated it is suspending attacks on US troops”
And I’m thinking to myself... “you naive idiots”
About a year ago, I said that the only country that could, all by itself attack Iran without fear of world condemnation would be France.
France has done EVERYTHING it possibly could to accommodate the animals. France would gain back its credibility diplomatically by showing that it is willing to back up its foreign policy with military force too. If they really sustained an air campaign against Iran it would COMPLETELY change the diplomatic field of play.
The world would be forced to take France as seriously as they do Britain.
Sarkozy’s threats recently have made the possibility a real one.
As I asked in late 2003....why is this turbin wearing fat guy still alive?
Hmmmm.
a. Suspend the insurgency.
b. Wait for the Americans to declare victory, pack up, and leave.
c. Resume insurgency.
Makes perfect sense.
Muslims sound like women :)

This article, as it is good news that the enemy (Mookie) does not want to have his fighters slaughtered as they may fight another day, this situation is and was caused ultimately by Mr.(President) Bush. When our country decided to make War somewhere along the way we decided to make friends too. You CAN'T do both. I watched George get up on his podium and call for a "Pause For Peace" DURING the battle for Fallujah (which we had the upper hand)instead of finishing the military operation that we started (AND lost American Blood in the process) we stopped and LET the enemy regroup. I do Hope and Pray for our military every day, and that our POLITICAL Leaders will pull their head out of the very dark hole that it's sometimes stuck in, but there are some very hard choices coming in the very near future that will require some simple decisions......the question is will we make them.
No quarter, mookie...
