Debating Ron Paul
National Ledger ^ | Aug 29, 2007 | JB Williams

Ron Paul supporters are fast making a name for themselves on the web. Not because they are just web savvy, but because they have proven themselves to be the best at hacking on-line polls, invalidating conservative polling data on behalf of their candidate. It seems that even Democrat 527 MoveOn.org is now onboard the Ron Paul anti-war train.

Despite the fact that presidential candidate Ron Paul can not score better than 3% in any legitimate national poll, his supporters claim he is “the conservative” candidate to beat in the 2008 Republican race for the White House. Despite his less than conservative voting record in congress and his Teddy Kennedy like position on the war on terror in Iraq, his supporters think he is the most “conservative” candidate in the race. How?

another wiki dependent... Your liberal pettycoat is showing...

The Wiki page contains the footnoted links to the Washington Post and Washington Times articles which were quoted.

Wiki is quick and handy for a lot of basic facts. Funny, I don't think you complain when a wiki article is used to complain about Ron Paul. It seems your disdain for Wiki is rather selective, eh?

If these folks throw enough money at him, he’ll change his mind about a third party run...

I doubt it. I think the only way he changes his mind and gets his wife's permission to run third party is if he is denied any fair chance at the nomination by party machination.

So if the GOP wants RP to run third-party, just keep kicking him around and make him mad. Better yet, make his wife mad so she'll tell him to run third-party.

And the Constitution only gives the power to the FedGov in the case of terrorists or illegals. If you want to fight a drug war, pass an Amendment.

So you are equally against President Bush and the GOP members who voted for Bush's Shamnesty plan?

Just trying to ascertain how consistent you are...

One would hope he's attained a more mature attitude by now.

Hunter is better than Thompsons record from the Senate. Thompson wasn’t nearly as Pro-2A as Hunter has always been.

Strictly speaking, you could argue that the federal government is solely granted the power to set and enforce immigration laws (and we will likely see such cases soon, probably with Bush White House collaboration). Yet, some states like Georgia are taking action already. No big complaints from this crowd. Me either. But their enthusiasm for the Constitution is pretty selective. That is the problem and why Ron Paul gets a lot of support on these issues.

Pardon me. I just discovered you're a moron.

You don't even know the difference between the Washington Post (very liberal) and the Washington Times (very conservative). And your ignorance about major newspapers in this country can't be blamed on me or on Ron Paul. Or even on Wikipedia.

They were quoting Walter Williams and Ron Paul directly. Neither man has disavowed or challenged the accuracy of their reporting so we can only assume it's accurate, just as with any other direct quote from any other public figure in any newspaper.

Sounds like a good idea to me. He will suck a lot of anti-American surrender votes from the dims. Even the dims are not as anti-American as Paul.

I think this is more than enough to explain why liberal Democrats are supporting Ron Paul for President. He’s better aligned with their thinking than either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

I don't think Ron Paul is anything like Obama or Hilliary. His votes are consistently for small government and freedom. To tie the small areas where Ron Paul and the democrats intersect then imply he is more of a democrat than a republican doesn't hold water. I’m sure there are a lot of adulterers who will be voting for Rudy Guliani and maybe one of his kids. I’m sure there will be a lot of polygamists voting for Mitt Romney. I’m sure there will be an a lot of anti-free speech pro immigration amnesty advocates who will be voting for John McCain and I’m sure there will be a lot of dumbasses voting for Fred Thompson because “Law and Order” is their favorite show. I am sick of these guilt by association threads; and I’m still voting for Ron Paul in spite of them.

Under a republican president and republican congress, the size of the federal government grew 2-3 times inflation. Ron Paul voted against this expansion of the federal government. That's a real conservative.

Drugs are both “illegal” and a form of “terrorism”.

Amendments are done too often already...

I can name several that should be repealed. The very last thing we need is more amendments.

And you don’t seem to grasp the fact that there is NO SUCH THING as a free or independent press, much less a “conservative” newspaper left in America today...

No wonder you call yourself George W. Bush...

Well, MoveOn.org, DU and Code Pink disagree with you...

Ron Paul is better aligned with Cindy Sheehan and Jane Fonda than Hillary or Obama are. This doesn’t bother you? or even cause you to pause and think?

I see. So every article, from every newspaper and publication, is simply liberalism.

Then what is the point of gathering at FR? If nothing printed is to believed, what is the point?

BTW, I'll point out that you are essentially saying that we are no longer any sort of democracy or republic but instead some kind of liberal police state. It is almost impossible to have a free country without a free press.
