Absolute vanity about tattoos.

Posted on 08/28/2007 9:06:17 PM PDT by ozaukeemom

Over the years, I have thought about getting a tattoo. Surprising considering my fear of needles! lol I see them everywhere on every classs of person, I see the artwork vary from onr body to another. What causes someone to decide to have a tattoo. Is it cultural? Is it a fad? I am seriously thinking about it now. Any stories, suggestions? Thank you!

I’ve also known far more folks who regretted getting their tattoos than those who still thought they were wonderful 10, 20 or 30 years later.

Yeah.... I've heard the same thing about wives.

I guess the only difference between getting a wife and a tattoo is that it's easier to ignore a bad tattoo and you can get rid of a tattoo cheaper and with less scarring!

Really, the arguments everyone here gave against tattoos are the same arguments against marriage:

o Christ wasn't married/tattooed
o A tattoo/marriage is forever
o The most successful people aren't married/tattooed
o There are more married/tattooed people without an education
o It's expensive and painful to get rid of a marriage/tattoo.
o So you like your marriage/tattoo now, what about later?
o You could get a disease from your spouse/tattoo!
o In 30 years your spouse/tattoo will be all ugly and wrinkly

I think that is the bottom line of this thead: You are essentially marrying an ink design in your skin. Having said that, I still love my tattoos. My exwife? Not so much....

When I’m feeling eally “anxious”, I just scan the room and seek out the first woman with a tattoo I see.

And then she kicks you in the nuts and you're all better.

Examine your premises.

Are you trying to bring Objectivism into this? Really, what is the Objectivist view on tattoos?

Boredom is the reason for tattoos and piercings.

I think you might have something here.

Wellll, I do know about the scaring in terms of the wife stuff! LOL. But thankfully, not about the other.

Thankfully, God is into the business of working ALL THINGS TO GOOD for those who Love Him; are called to His purposes etc.

Perhaps not . . . but . . . part of me wonders . . .

If you had loved your wife with the same or even greater idolized devotion that you seem to revere your tattoo with . . .

if you’d still be in even more lovely, harmonious and mutually enriching relationship with her.

Well, consider that you get a good reason for why you can’t donate blood.

Actually, when she's 10 beers ugly, it's something half decent to gaze upon.

(I'm gonna get flamed for that)

Tattoos - A permanent cure for temporary insanity.

Something like this?

Leviticus 19:28
You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.

Maybe, but my tattoos never went out and f'ed some other guy and don't still occasionally get fraudulent credit cards in my name.

OK, I’ll confess, I secretly stereotype.

Stereotyping is ~generalizing~, the sorting of observed phenomena into categories so as to make sense of all the impressions rushing our brains. We all do it, and there is no need to do it "secretely," except, of course, to evade the scorn of PC jerks.

We all "discriminate," too...unless we're psychotic.

It is asinine to fixate irrationally on some physical characteristic of a person (race, e.g.) and make strong assumptions based on such an isolated bit of data.

Even race, though, is a legitimate thing to notice. Jesse Jackson was quoted in Newsweek about fifteen years ago as saying that when he is walking down a dark street in a big city late at night and he hears footsteps behind him, he is relieved if he turns and sees that it is a white guy! Incredible comment from Jackson. You certainly can get mugged by a white guy. But the face of street crime in big cities is, for the most part, not a white face. Only a PC-obsessed fool would deny this.

(I know you were being ironic in your remark that you stereotype "secretly"...just wanted to chip in my bit on that idea. Incidentally, if I heard footsteps and saw it was a guy with tats all over his shaved head...I'd be real concerned. And that is more of a white stereotype than a black, I'd say.)

Are you arguing not to get tattoos, or to keep kosher?

'Cuz if you aren't kosher you can't use that argument.

How do you get Goyim Freepers to Quote Rabbinical Law?
Mention tattoos.

No shrimp or cheeseburgers for you!

I’ve also thought about getting a tattoo. And I share your dislike of needles.

Every time I seriously consider getting one, I end up deciding against it.

I think it’s for the same reason I don’t get piercings. I’m fine just the way God made me. And if I get one and don’t like it, there’s no going back.

But that’s just me. You have to make your own choice.

I’m sure you’ve gotten enough responses to make an informed decision about getting a tattoo. Use your intelligence to decide. Some of the responses here exhibited very little of that commodity. Whatever you decide, be certain of your choice and be happy with the result.

I’m skeptical about that. What’s the source of your data?
