“Na zi” = “National Socialist”
I never understood why so many idiots couldn't grasp that. It's not rocket science. After the destruction of Germany in WW1, it was quite natural for socialism to be adopted.
NASDP (Nationalsocialistiche Deutsche Arbeiter Patei) may have been the official name of the party but it’s workings were not.
I used to torture the Maoists and Troski’ites on my college campus in the 70’s. When they tried to talk to me, I would tell them I already belonged to a party that agreed with most of their program. I would then describe the NSDAP and when I had them agreeing with me on many issues I dropped the hammer, “ you MUST have heard of the the Nazi Party, we were big in the 30’s and 40’s......
Nazi is really only short for National - the first two syllables are so pronounced in German. But you are correct about him being a type of Socialist. Remember too that he made so many Folks-things (”of the people,” sort of). Volksbank, Volkswagen, etc.
