Socialism kills
By Dennis Prager - September 2, 2003 -© 2003 Creators Syndicate, Inc.

Europe has given the world Marxism, communism, fascism, Nazism, racism and socialism, all rotten ideas that have caused immeasurable human suffering. But for Europeans and their ideological twins on the American left and at universities, ideas are not judged by their ability to ameliorate human suffering or reduce evil, but by their complexity and apparent profundity. An idea is not good because it produces good – that's unromantic American pragmatism – it is good because it sounds good.

First, the socialist mind loathes work.
Second, socialism values equality more than liberty.
Third, socialism teaches you to avoid taking care of other people.
Fourth, as a result of this socialist mindset, people in socialist countries give little charity
Fifth, the larger the state, the more callous it becomes.

The list of europe’s evil philosophies is incomplete.

Prager left out Feminism.

Feminism is like racism and anti-semitism.

They all want to elevate one group by standing on top of the dead carcasses of some other group(s).

In the case of Feminism that’s men, boys and dead babies of both sexes.

I have had several dialogs with loony liberals about this very thing and the amazing thing is they don't think what they advocate is socialism! They don't recognize their own ideology. They use all kinds of euphemisms for it but won't call it socialism.

I even had one write me that "Socialism is an idea that has come and gone, really" and that all those "isms" went out with the second world war. Really?!

And then there are the sheople that just want the "free" stuff and have been conditioned to drool every time a Congreecritter plays the class envy card. And then there are those that play the religion card...they can't get it through their thick, holier than thou, heads that Christ advocated compassion not coercion.

God help US.

When will the Europeans begin to understand how weak they have made themselves? Or is it too late?

Will their young people eventually rise up in revolt?

Did any one ever notice that the left will bitch and carp about CEO’s making $300,000 a year, but say nothing of a professional athlete or an actor making 3,000,000 a year?

They all want to elevate one group by standing on top of the dead carcasses of some other group(s).

While that may be the result and a major influence, the true purpose of all the "isms" is to divide our society by sowing discord among its various components.

The only thing Prager got wrong is racism. Euros didn’t invent it. Every society in the history of the world has been racist. What Europeans and Americans did that was new and different was eventually decide that racism is wrong.

Many of the socialist countries (France, Norway, etc) have government owned corporations to further fund their ‘projects’.
Which corporations will the US government have to ‘own’ to obtain the funding needed?
I believe there is a ‘tipping point’ at which taxes will not be enough. (Or rather people will stop being productive when taxes become too burdensome.) No benefit/No risk.

I think feminism is a US invention, which is probably why he left it out.

I remember back in the Clinton years, Tony Blair spoke to the Socialist International. To paraphrase, he told them, “I am proud to be a socialist. But I am a new, pragmatic kind of socialist. I understand we need a strong, private corporate economy that we can tax to provide the funds for the kind of state services we all want to see provided.”

American lefties are rarely so honest (or smart for that matter).

When governments acquire power over its people, whether you call it communism, socialism, facism or whatever, that government invariably becomes corrupted by its ability to direct wealth. It may be directed to an individual,an elite minority, or to national aggression. Either way, the worker and producer of wealth becomes a means to someone elses aspirations. And the use of force becomes the only means to provide the worker/producers motivation. The only way to inspire economic productivity without threats or punishment is to allow the worker/producer to keep what they earn or produce. However, no government with the power to do so has ever been able to resist the temptation to steal. Our forefathers knew that you could only control a government’s temptation to steal by controlling its power. That lesson has been forgotten.

You may not know this, but the Hellenistic civilization of the Mediteranean was not at all racist. They took no note and gave no signficance to skin color, The Latin word gens meant a people, as we would say New Yorkers, but had no racial connotations. Race was an intellectual construct of the 18th century European Encyclopedists who busily inventoried and categorized everything that explorers encountered. Colonial experiences fleshed out the term.

Mary Wollstonecraft penned the first treatis on the rights of women in 1792.

The word “feminism” was first coined in the UK in the 1880’s, and was not used in the US until the 1910’s.

I think Rush is right. The Left judges ideas on the intentions behind them.

If the intentions are good, nothing else matters--to the Left. The outcome is of no consequence.

Oh yeah. And if the idea comes from a designated victim, it's well received no matter how bad, bizarre, or unworkable it is or how bad the outcome. If the idea comes from a designated predator, it is disparaged, no matter how good or reasonable the idea and no matter how good the outcome.

Jimmy Carter doesn't understand much. He can't. But he does understand that it doesn't matter how rediculous you are or what you say, if you can convince the Leftists that your intentions are good--and that you care--or, of utmost importance, that you are one of them. In fact, he's built a career on it.
