Danged if I know. There is the original story:

You’re right, minus_273. China Airlines is based in Taiwan and has nothing to do with any companies or the government based on the mainland AKA The People’s Republic of China (PRC). Taiwan, called Formosa by the Portugese, was once known as the Republic of China when it was ruled by the Nationalists led by Chiang (surname) Kai-shek. China Airlines was the national carrier. The Nationalists lost the Civil War to the Communists, led by Mao (surname) Zedong in 1949 and fled to Taiwan, which had recently (1945 at the time) been liberated from Japanese rule.

Taiwan has become a very spirited democracy, unlike the PRC, since the Nationalists lost elections in the Eighties to native Taiwanese parties.

Well, bad on me... I didn’t realize this was Taiwan. But the comment still stands if they’re covering up.

I don’t care who paints over, it’s a seedy practice. If you want to avoid publicity like this, then keep your aircraft from burning out a runway.
