I'll see your cutsie picture and raise you a couple of real pit bull pictures

Between 500,000 and 800,000 dog bites annually in the USA serious enough to require ER treatment. 94% are unprovoked. The majority are on children, Although a number of breeds are responsible, pit bulls, german shepards, dobermans, chow chows, and Huskies are the most common offenders, so there is something to the breed argument (with pit bulls being number 1)

I wonder if you'd "luvmypitt" if it did that to YOUR kid.

I just cannot believe the "bankruptcy wish" that pit bull owners seem to cherish. One scarred child, and you've lost your home and your savings and maybe your income.

I think the best thing a citizen can do at this point is to demand of our homeowners' insurers that they not cover certain breeds of dogs--that will identify the remaining pits as pets of the improvident and thus a danger.

And our local shelters should not attempt to place any pits in homes--just euthenize them immedicately.

We get enough crap from the media, I'd like to think we know better here. Following the link for the smaller picture back to its source I find no reference to that being a "pit bull" bite. I am unable to trace the link for the large pic back to its source so breed/type is indeterminate.

All dog bites are serious, some of course more so than others, and virtually all are preventable.
Here's one...

A GIRL aged four was recovering today after her face was ripped open by a dog she was trying to stroke.

But police said they were powerless to act because the attack happened on private property and the dog was not officially classed as “dangerous”.

Molly Malone needed plastic surgery on her cheek after being bitten by a ######## last Tuesday afternoon.
~snip~
“Our first call was to the police. An officer came to see Molly and was shocked by the damage to her face.
~snip~
“We have two dogs ourselves and we are animal lovers. But it has really damaged her face and my daughter is now permanently scarred, it only just missed her eye.”
~snip~
Last year doctors at Alder Hey’s A&E department said they were treating the equivalent of a child a day for injuries caused by dog attacks, with one in five needing further treatment on more serious wounds.

You can check the link for the breed of dog.
And please note with respect to the last paragraph that this is an area where "pit bulls" are banned

With regard to this thread's incident..

Contributing Factors

Breed capable of inflicting significant damage.
Irresponsible owner(s) and gross negligence...Loose dogs
Pack behavior
Sex of dogs...Unknown
Reproductive status...Unknown
Function of dogs...Unknown
Failure of Animal Control..."Neighbors say they have had problems in the past with the two pit bulls running wild."

I wonder if you'd "luvmypitt" if it did that to YOUR kid.

If you have to wonder that about a poster on this forum...I have to wonder about you

I know these two dogs and I would feel very comfortable with them being around a child. But people who have well trained animals (Of all breeds) do not have these problems. If an animal with a good disposition is raised in a caring, loving home, these things do not happen. We also own a pit bull who is a sweet loving dog. He has never shown aggression to humans and listens well to commands. I will say it again, it was because of the environment in which he was raised!! People must be willing to train their animals and protect them. Our dog is never off his leash when he is outside our fenced in yard. We do that to protect him from others. We are smart owners who care about what happens to our animals and the kids. I do not understand the hate for these animals.

look people ANY kind of dog can, will, and has bit someone at some point. ALL I am trying to say is not all pit bull owners are irresponsible. I am not “white trash” I didn't get my dog for protection or to fight. I got him because I have had a love for the breed for 12 years now. I have researched what it takes to be a pit bull owner I know they must be trained and socialized very well.

I love my dog he is part of my family and all I was trying to do was show they aren't all monsters.

You all think what you want.

If I dog bites me, I kill the dog.

If a dog bites my kid, I kill the owner.
