Hot tempers and global warming
Daily Inter Lake ^ | 19Aug07 | FRANK MIELE

It used to be said that there were two things you should not talk about at the dinner table — religion and politics — in order to avoid unpleasant disagreements.

To that we may now add global warming, a topic which certainly leads to hotter tempers if not always rising temperatures.

Last week, I wrote about Newsweek’s recent cover story about global warming, and noted that it was more of an effort to belittle and besmirch critics of global warming dogma than a serious news story. Well, to be accurate, it was not even an unserious news story; it was commentary without an appropriate label.

Nonetheless, Newsweek speaks for a sizable population that is convinced we are going to roast like shrimp on a barbie unless we take drastic measures to change our way of life. I suppose their fear may explain why they are also so hostile, as terror often leads to hatred. As expected I heard from a couple of readers last week who told me I was either stupid or a corporate media lackey (and I thought all the corporate media lackeys worked for Newsweek!) because I had challenged the common wisdom on climate change.

A really excellent commentary on the current state of the global warming hysteria, that is definitely worth reading in its entirety.

Leftist environmentalism must be faced down or defeated, or it will send us into a socialist-secularist Dark Age. Republicans are the party to do the facing-down. I get the idea the writer is a liberal, but eductated enough (like we ALL should be in the 21st century) to understand the context of our worldly existence on this earth. The Republican party would do well to become the ideological home of Americans who understand the hoax behind the "global climate" agenda.

We should also put our heads together and figure out whether or not mankind really does control the destiny of planet earth, or whether we are its innocent victims just like the dinosaurs were.

Victims ... hmm. Dinosaurs were here for something like 165 million years, all told, I think. We've been here for a nano-fraction.

I have a much simpler explanation: Anthropegic Global Warming is both a religious belief and a political movement. So the fact that it's not a safe topic at the dinner table is "nothing new under the sun."

Basic References:

Lawrence Solomon's "The Deniers" (a series of articles on the view of scientists who have been labelled "Global Warming Deniers"):

Newsweek’s recent cover story about global warming

I also read the Newsweek cover story by Sharon Begley. Her attempt to mislead is revealed by her reference to "naysayers who still reject the overwhelming evidence of climate change". The “naysayers” do not reject the evidence of climate change. The sound scientific evidence required for a true consensus is lacking.

Unfortunately, for this nation and the world, there are enough fools who will accept her little tryst with Al Gore from 1979 to 2005 as evidence indeed. The article is a sad commentary on how uneducated and how willing to remain uneducated Sharon Begley is. Perhaps even sadder, she is not alone.

No need. GW is politics. That's all it is.

I just got back from a week in San Francisco. The TV there is from an alternative universe as far as I was concerned. Local CBS station was running an ad to ask for contributions to fight global warming as if it was an obligation and not an option. And not one word on what the money would actually be used for.

Global warming is a scam. It helps selected people to make lots of money and gain power.

Anthropegic Global Warming is both a religious belief and a political movement.

Just like Islam and, ultimately, just as dangerous.

I also read the Newsweek cover story by Sharon Begley.

The August 20 issue of Newsweek contained an article by Robert Samuelson, "Greenhouse Simplicities", that slammed Begley's article as "a highly contrived story". One Newsweek writer slams another. Weird.

Global warming is a religious cult whose adherents fanatically hold to their dogma regardless of scientific evidence or serious skepticism about their theories.

Here's my favorite:

What amazes me is that many of the same people who believe we are responsible for GW are the same ones who believe we did not really land men on the moon. It seems as though for every question there is an answer rooted in a well-funded conspiracy.
